Washing Machines - Cold Fill - Energy use

Not only that. Popularity of biological detergent means majority of washes need only warmed (30C) water, not hot water. With cold supply only, the machine can be more freely located away from a boiler. But in all likleyhood cost-driven to make appliance simpler and cheaper to make/compete...

    Surfacing boards

Hi L, You're doing nothing wrong. Some adjustments are needed and with a little time spent it'll cut true. As Steve says, the tapering is due to the infeed and outfeed tables not being exactly parallel. A very small error here is simply magnified with successive passes. When surfacing (as...

    Routers (again!!)

Stuart, It would an excellent choice. I've got 2 Hitachi's - a venerable TR12 and an M12V. The M12V is in my router table as unlike the TR12 it has the variable speed essential for the larger cutters that aren't safe for freehand work. Since most of my freehand work only requires smallish...

    Hitachi C10 FSB Mitre Saw

P.S. If you do buy one, given the saving on the saw, it's well worth considering a good 80T blade for around £40-£50 (I've found CMT to be very good on my Delta 36-250). The standard blade although good quality, won't give a glass smooth cut. (Just noticed a devilish no.of posts  )

    Hitachi C10 FSB Mitre Saw

Hi Biglouie, Hitachi is a very safe bet for quality. Personally, I've always liked Hitachi tools and all of mine are working perfectly well albeit some looking rather battered, after nearly 20 years. Motors, and bearings are Hitachi built and pretty well bombproof by all accounts in the trade...

    Performance Pro Shop Vac

If it ever packs up unexpectedly, let me know cos I'll have a good idea why and how to fix it it for a quid.

    Skype

I expect this will be considered boring and will be dismissed without comment... but, Costs nothing eh? - what about the £15-£20 p.m. for each end of the line?. Frinstance, it's costs me a teeny 2p per minute to call the US - anytime, even 18p per minute to Belize (Band 10) doesn't hurt that...

    Market research (again!) - Glues

If you can come up with a waterproof superglue, that'd be a winner.

    Axminster Again!!!

Well maybe it's a case of "the computer says no". Perhaps Axminster's IT system constrains their "Customer Service Operatives" from doing more to help you, even if they wanted too. My advice - lighten up! - cut them a little more slack and you'll get your new straight edge in good order.

Can you bung me a bung?

OK Steve, I've searched the UK manufacturers catalogues. 36mm is an odd size. The nearest I can find is a 37mm hole size semi-blind grommet EPDM black rubber)for up to 2mm panel thickness. Semi-blind meaning it's recessed both sides, so not very attractive methinks. The other is a nylon...

    Ice Bear Waterstone Kit

j, Just a thought, Icecream tubs et al - it's cheap, kindof OK and all, but things can get a bit messy cos you'll want a tray or similar to sit the stone holder on when sharpening. Then you need to stop the tray sliding about too. I pushed the boat out and bought the Veritas Stone Pond after...

Am I overreacting or whose to blame?

It's sounds as though you think it's Metabo's fault as well as their problem. In fairness I think any company has to rely on their suppliers - in this case Parceline. If it were my company, I'd offer a sweetener to the end customer and kick some ass at my supplier.

    Variable Pitch plane

$1500 = 1 Plane - 2 minutes to change angle. or:- $1500 = 6 to 8 LV/LN planes - 3 seconds to change angle. H'mmm... I know where my dosh would go. I can't help thinking that however clever the designer is, he somehow missed the point a little bit. One has to admire the sublime quality though...

    Broadband Internet access

Beware the small print of Tiscali's generous looking package. Whatever service you receive (or not as the case may be) it ties you to min 12 months payment- by credit card only, - so no simple cancelling your direct debit and two fingers if they pee you off. Also if you move somewhere else...

    Japanese Combination Waterstone from axminster

Dunno, but the Ice Bear kit is £33 and change - not bad value IMHO.

    Japanese Combination Waterstone from axminster

I'll second Shady on that. I had the 250/1000 stone first, then later I got the Icebear kit (800 and 6000). I use all as still I find the 250 quicker for removing the occasional nick. cheers Ike

    Chisel Handles

I have both styles (actually just one handy sized butt chisel) and IMHO think you'll have made the right choice, unless you have very small hands. They're not slightly different - they're hugely different in size and feel! I find the large handles the most comfortable and precise control of any...

    Cab I have a poll?

Depends - define "exactly" cos everything is made with tolerances. Test crosscut and measuring for straightness and squareness will help answer the question.
