    Ash TV table - FINISHED

I think you've done a nice bit of grain-matching on the top but, on the sides (ends), I think I may have flipped each of those boards 180°, so that the grain was meeting to form an 'arch' in the middle (almost like a full-width board)... Then again, if the grain doesn't match up properly, it...

    Dining table W.I.P

If you wanted to knock the gloss back a bit, you should be able to do so with a bit of fine (0000) steel wool and elbow grease. :) On a dining table, you really need a lacquer of varnish finish to put up with all the "abuse" a dining table top gets. Oils and waxes would usually be durable enough...

Aother Project from my Auction Purchased English Cherry

That is very nice indeed. Don't envy you hand-cutting all those dovetails but, they look perfect as well! You've got some lovely cherry, there. It seems to be that, the thicker the cherry, the less dead knots there are? Whenever I've bought 1in boards, they've mostly been riddled with dead...

making a bench saw out of circular saw

Whilst I couldn't condone such an approach, you could at least get over the switch issue by adding a proper NVR switch (<£20) between the saw and mains supply. That would stop you have to reach underneath. Some form of guarding and a riving knife (if your saw doesn't have one) would also be...

    Dining table W.I.P

Shame about some of the sap (lighter wood?) on the hollow legs but, it looks as though you know how to apply a varnish! Best of luck with the chairs. Have you sorted a design for them yet?

    Anyone use Trend routers

I've only used it a couple of times so far but, it seems fine. I think most routers tend to suffer from this over time where fine dust, pitch and resin gets on to the plunge bars. A quick blast with PTFE spray or similar is usually all that's required to get them plunging sweetly again. :)

    Side Table - Finished Photos

Thanks, guys. :) Chris, this may or may not have a similar effect but, I'm proposing the thicken the top up to 24/25mm thick. I'll be cutting the walnut veneers about 3mm thick and then they'll be laminated to MDF (18/19mm thick). This could bring it back in to proportion with the rest of the...

    RIP.

What about Apocalypse Now??? Okay, he wasn't the star and he didn't make appearance until late on in the film - don't worry, I won't mention the Super Mario Bros. film!!! :D I didn't buy his accent in 24, either! Still, I was surprised to read over the weekend that he has only...

    SOLD: Beech Hardwood Workbench

Colin, thanks for clearing that up with the drawing. :) I should add that while my bench sits back against a "wall" there is a pillar (approx. 18in wide x 5in deep) in front of this. If I put my bench to the right of the pillar, it would be too close to the end wall. To the left, and it would...

Sorry, Colin, I'm sure I understand what you mean?

    Side Table - Finished Photos

Yep this is it, at last :( - three-years in carpentry followed by three years in furniture! Don't know what I'm going to do come September - maybe I could start having a lie in on Thursdays and Fridays! :D I have got a couple of exhibitions lined up for July so, that should be good. :)

    SOLD: Beech Hardwood Workbench

I quite like the idea (now!) of having a 'split bench' with a tool well in the middle. When I first saw the bench in the 21st Century video, I assumed this arrangement would only suit a workshop where you were able to access the workbench from all sides... However, I reckon that if you...

    Anyone use Trend routers

Since you're looking at that Makita router, I'd advise you to consider the DeWalt DW621K instead. It's got very similar features (dust extraction spout, etc.) but the fence is so much better. I recently got one off eBay for only £125! 8)

    Draw-boring tenons

So, Rob, does this mean you're finally placing your order for one???

    SCMS laser upgrade

That does indeed look promising, nicely done. Most after-market lasers have been known to be temperamental but, you appear to have yours set up well. Yes, I'd also like a link to the eBay seller's shop, please!

    Wanted: Small router

If it's any good to you, I have a cheap ½in router that I've been thinking of getting rid of for for a while... I'm willing to sell it quite cheaply, too (£40 inc. courier?). It's basically a cheap knock-off/imitation of the Makita 3612C. It's only single speed and it's not as nice overall (I...

Window shutters and boxes - first project - WIP

A good first project so far and an excellent choice in going for a bandsaw instead of a table saw. How else would you have cut those boards 7in deep?!

    4 drawer unit - WIP - COMPLETED!

I do mine on the router table, making one cut from each face to centralise the tenon (assuming both faces are parallel). You can buy large tenon cutters - they're excellent; they'll take bigger cuts and will also leave less breakout on the back edge. But, you should be able to prevent this by...

    Stickley Morris Chair - finished

It must be nice to have it all glued up, at last. :) I did my chair this week and, despite using Titebond Extend (which is supposed to give you 15-20 minutes... :P), at college, it was starting to go off in less than ten minutes! Only thing I might have done would've been to...

    Draw-boring tenons

I quite agree. Even though mistakes like this do happen with some regularity... Admittedly, this is a bit worse than a mis-spelling like "Competion" (last issue ) but, people don't always acknowlegde the fact that Nick does pretty much all of this by himself and it's funded by his savings...
