A simple box...(a slow and lightly updated thread)

Looking good David. Definitely some blood and sweat going into this build! Can’t wait to see the first end grain shavings it makes.

    Leytool Hand Drill

I’ve got one too - a great little drill for awkward jobs. IIRC the chuck is standard and opens like most others. Mine was a bit gummed up but a bit of WD40 did the trick.

Recommendations for a decent 410mm jointer

Sedgwick do a 16” combination machine. If my MB is anything to go by it will be bulletproof and nothing short of thermonuclear war will cause any of the adjustments to go out of whack. I’d take a look if I were in your shoes although be prepared for something that weighs a lot more than the Rojek!

Bench vices for Hand Tool Woodworking

Having used said bench I can confirm it works a treat (even if the vice is at the wrong end for a right hander). Richard’s bench is also bigger than most by quite a margin and has a couple of great little touches that make it stand out; like the turn buttons which act as planing stops and the...

    Sorry to be leaving

I too am finding the new layout less comfortable to view and harder to use. As a result I’m visiting and posting less. It would be nice if the forum would allow users to select the skin of their preference as other fora I use do. Although I really enjoy the content of this (free to use) site...

    Grain orientation of wedges

I’m always taken aback by the generosity of folk on these boards any you Custard are a prime culprit! Thank you for the very kind offer. I’ll see what I can find myself and get in touch if I draw a blank.

    Grain orientation of wedges

Thanks again everyone. I have the orientation of the wedges correct in relation to how the grain of the stile runs. I was just unsure as to how the grain of the wedge itself should run - basically I thought I couldn’t get away with long grain showing but wanted confirmation. The only light...

    Grain orientation of wedges

ABW = American Black Walnut. Thanks for the tips everyone. Looks like exposed end grain it is then.

    Grain orientation of wedges

Hi everyone. I’m making a coffee table for SWMBO and would like to use wedged through tenons for one aspect of it. I’ve never done these before so would welcome any advice but the thing that I’m looking for specific guidance on is regards the wedges. I’m using contrasting wood in ABW for the...

finding a single phase startrite 352 bandsaw.

My thoughts exactly Bob. I’ve lost the tct tip on my rear guide as well. Where did you get a replacement from if you don’t mind me asking?

finding a single phase startrite 352 bandsaw.

I’ve got a single phase 352 as well, a late 70’s model. I wouldn’t swap it for a modern far eastern made machine for all the tea in China! Came complete with all the bits, cost me £500 delivered and never misses a beat. Adjusting the guides can seem a bit of a fiddle until you get the knack but...

Wadkin PP dimensional saw and DR bandsaw

Welcome. You might also consider posting your question on the Canadian woodworking site where a number of members are likely to be able to help.

    ALUMINIUM T-TRACK

Er looks like it’s £39 to me, unless I’m missing something? The Rutlands one that is.

Wadkin AGS10 with a strange lever

If I had an AGS 10 I’d agree with you but in fact I have a BGS 10 - it’s the smallest sliding table, canting spindle dimension saw Wadkin made. My particular machine is complete with the sliding outrigger to the left of the saw and is, I think, the only one of its kind remaining in that...

Wadkin AGS10 with a strange lever

The hand wheels aren’t original, neither is the fence micro-adjustment knob but that should not make any difference to the use of the saw. I have a slightly different Wadkin of similar vintage myself and wouldn’t swap it for a more modern, pressed chinesium machine for love nor money!

Have a look at this Jacob!

Awesome work Jim! Very inspiring I must say. Cracking thread as well! I’d not seen it before and read it all from beginning to end. Folks with equally strong yet differing convictions expressing them freely - that’s what public fora like this are for IMHO. Shame some contributions were a bit...

Welcome! Remember the rule “no pictures; didn’t happen”!! We love old tool restorations here!

    Vice advice (baby)

I wish my bench build thread hadn’t been photobucketed as I had all the steps set out with pictures. I may have even recorded the time it took to do. I’ll have to re-host my images at some point but it seems such a faff I can’t face it right now!

    Vice advice (baby)

52 is smaller. Either can be had with QR mechanism so check if it has this if important to you.
