    First Turning of 2007

There is a definate pull which I have to resist on the basis that I really must learn how to use the tools I have got before I start buying any more. I'll also admit to having a saved search on Ebay for a locally available suitable lathe  Andy

    Extreme Birdhouse # 27

John, these bird hotels of yours really are something else. I always thought though that having pegs under the holes gave larger birds somewhere to stand while they poked their heads into the holes, scaring the life out of the occupants. Andy

    Straight Edges

I don't need an accurate straight edge for machine tool set up so chesterman 1' and 2' steel rules are good enough for me. Andy

Oak and Acrylic varnish - a cautionary tale:

Oh Dear, that sounds costly. What did you do/will you do to recover it? Andy, who only used wire wool on oak once.

    Backups on the Mac

Thanks guys. I sorted out the verification problem last night. By dragging folders and files into a burn folder one is actually creating aliases of the original files rather creating a copy. This means that if applications are used while the backup is being done it is likely (especially if...

    Backups on the Mac

Thanks Roger, I really should have thought to look at Apple/Dicsussions first. I'll try different media and slower burns speeds this evening & see what happens. Andy

    Advice on new saws?

Nice to know I was not alone - nice post. I reckon though that those pics were taken before the HSE told us all how to lift something without straining our backs. Andy

    New kitchen project

Sean, I take my hat off to you for sticking with this and producing such a wonderful looking kitchen. We are thinking of replacing ours but I cannot imagine I'd have the level of patience that you have shown to see it through. Andy

    Backups on the Mac

I have at last started to take backups on the iMac using the built in DVD/CD burner. I am doing this by just copying directories into a burn folder & then burning the DVD. Very easy. Although on both DVDs that I have used (Verbatim -RW 4x) the verification has failed with an EM suggesting I...

Oh great one of Scit's comps has not finished before I log in on Monday morning. Shame I haven't a clue what #4 is though. Andy

    Drawer base

Roger, I hope you only did this once and not three times. I also hope that you do not need to ply a whole new sheet of ply just to remake the bases. Andy
