    Safari 4 - problems

Thanks Roger, Yep, I went through all those settings with the Nationwide's support team - emptied the cache, deleted all history etc. Still no joy. I too had read some Mac forums which I why I thought I'd try Firefox. My ISP is clueless, maintaining that there is nothing within the router etc...

    Plastic end cap water tank

Flying haggis, thanks for your reply. It is indeed an IBC container. I spoke to DV fuels and sent them the above images. On their recommendation I ordered the fitting on your link. What they sent me had the very course thread to which I referred earlier. When I spoke to them again they could...

    Plastic end cap water tank

Can anyone help me to find an end cap to fit this:- or even help to explain the technical term for its size. This is the valve from a 1000 litre tank I acquired over here. I'd like to make it a bit more user friendly and attach a hose pipe to it. Unfortunately it seems to have a "non standard...

    sawtooth or forstner bit?

What I bought was one of these from Dick http://www.dick.biz/dick/product/707387/detail.jsf I also bought the 300mm extension bar that was way too scary to use. With the drill bit on the end the wobble was excessive. I had to use it in the mortiser to get the depth of cut and perhaps 3000rpm...

    Polystyrene insulation and electric wires

I heard about this when I was insulating my workshop with 1" polystyrene insulation. I made a sandwich with an length of power cable sandwiched between to pieces of insulation and taped together. After 9 years there is no sign of deterioration of the cable. I'm no expert and not saying...

    sawtooth or forstner bit?

Thanks they are indeed in the Isaac Lords catalogue. While I await the 50mm bit I though I'd prep the timber and bore out most of the hole. This is chestnut, a reclaimed post from the garden. First time that the mortiser has been used (or even unpacked) since the move 2 years ago. It felt...

    sawtooth or forstner bit?

XY, the oak/chestnut will be dry. I've no issues with buying a quality forstner bit £40 for a 2" bit does not seem excessive. Which one did you get? XY and Dave R. I've been mulling this over and in fact came to the similar conclusion ie using the mortiser to clean out most of the hole and then...

    sawtooth or forstner bit?

Is the morticer a wee bit too fast for a 2 or 2 1/2" bit. From memory I think mine is 3000rpm and I have scorched wood before using it with much smaller bits. Cheers Andy

    sawtooth or forstner bit?

My drill is rated at 250w and states max drilling diameter is 13mm. It managed quite well to cut 40mm holes 13mm deep in hard wood, all be it very slowly using a Bosch forstner bit. I guess I might have to try in order to find out if the drill can cope. Would holes drilled in the side of the...

    sawtooth or forstner bit?

I'd like to bore some 2" holes about 4" deep in hardwood (probably oak and chestnut) to make an enclosed cylinder. I only have a drill press, no lathe. Which would be most suitable the forstner or sawtooth? Cheers Andy

    Turning Toy wheels

I use a hole saw in a bench drill. By using the hole saw one gets an axle hole in the very centre of each wheel. My hole saws have a lead drill of 6mm which is the same size as the dowel I have used for the axels. If an off centre hole is required use the hole saw without the lead drill - dont...

    Turning without a lathe

Ingenious perhaps but that large hole cutter left very rough saw marks on the wood that required a lot of sanding out. All that lateral pressure on the chuck can't be doing it much good, but it was fun. Forgot to mention that there is a piece of 6mm dowel plugging the hole just in case the...
