    Hen's Den

Mark, thanks, On one side of the proposed area for the run the coop/fence will sit on 2 railway sleepers. The concrete breeze blocks will be made level with the ground on the outside which I hope will deter the foxes digging underneath. I hope that will be enough. Andy

    Hen's Den

I don't get much time for woodwork and this is more construction than woodwork but I thought I'd share anywy. All screws and glues. I have not bought the chooks yet, this will wait until after our summer holiday in July, but I have finished building the coop and prepared the site for the run...

    OSX10.6 Administrator and account permissions

Studders, If understand things correctly I should not need to have root or superuser access in order to open change or delete other user's files. My account status is Admin and has been so since the OS was installed. Am I misunderstanding what an Administrator can do? Andy

    OSX10.6 Administrator and account permissions

Roger, I've tried to move documents to her public folder but I get a message stating "that the document could not be saved as I don't have permission. To change permission select item in finder and choose file > get info" I am a little confused as I do not even have permission to view the...

New oak table top onto steel frame

My father is having a solid oak table top made to replace the existing laminated top. It is a round table with a hefty steel X shaped support for the top. He is convinced that the steel frame will take the increased weight of the new top. Alas no pics as the table is in the UK & dad's only...

    OSX10.6 Administrator and account permissions

Can any mac users help? I've just started to set up my daughter with her own user account on the Mac. I have set up up as a Managed Account with Parental Controls. My account is Admin. I would like to move some documents from my user to hers but all of her folders come up with a No Entry...

    TV advice requested

Hi Chris, good luck with your search for a new TV. I found the whole process quite exhausting 18 months ago. There is far too much technology involved and of course each manufacturer has a different name for all its gizmos and if you wait 3 months there will be a new, must have feature, that...

my first comission for my almost set up workshop

Mark, I do not know much about 24' long tables but I did make one that is 2" wider than you are proposing and I would suggest that it is not wide enough. At 30" wide by the time you have plates, glasses, cruet etc on the table there will not be enough room for serving dishes, centre pieces etc...

    mispronunciation and/or misspelt words

A long time ago I remember seeing a sentence which, at first glance appeared to me total gobbledegook only when alternate pronunciation rules were used did the sentence make sense, but only when spoken. Fo example laugh would be spelt lalf, using the arf sound from half. Anyone ever seen...

    Making architraves

Jed, B&Q may well be the in the same group as Castorama over here but that is exactly want I want and does not seem to be available off the shelf over here. I shall see if I can find some skirting to rip down after today, if not, it table saw & router/plane. I did find this o the trend site...

    Making architraves

John, yep that Axminster bit is just what she does not want, too fancy for the house I'm afraid. Jeff, that's and interesting idea. I had previously dismissed skirting as being to big, but if I can find the profile ripping it down to size would be easy. I'm in Normandy by the way - and you? To...

    Making architraves

I need to make some architrave like this. I am not too concerned about the rounding at the narrow end. A straight 3-4mm edge would be fine and I expect easier to do. Dimensions approx 15mm high x 40mm deep All I can buy over here are the fancy multiple ogee designs which do not meet with the...

    e-mail accounts - opinions sought

Another Gmail user here from the invitation days. I have never used a PC based mail system, but then I only had a PC at home post broadband so having it "on" all day was never a problem. I also feel that you are far less likely to unwittingly download a virus or malware etc from a web based...

    Green house/glass house plans

I would suggest using Western Red Timber, Thuja Placata. It is the wood traditionally used for greenhouses due to its natural rot resistance. It does not require treating in anyway, will gradually turn silver/grey in colour and smells wonderful. It is very soft to work though, even a hard stare...

    Lawnmowers ...

Top marks BB, but I know you have more than one yourself. Last time I posted that pic you commented on the state of the lawn. Well I've not been able to use any of the Ransome's since we moved to France. 1600m2 of rough, , mole hill strewn pasture is not conducive to the use of such fine...
