    Attractive Legs

Does anyone know where I might be able to get some of these? B&Q seem to be confusing temporary and permanent at the moment. Andrew

    Day out anyone?

Tony, that’s quite a haul. I should have realised by the amount you car was weighed down. Have you cut it to size for you particular project or just into more manageable pieces? It was good to meet everyone on Saturday and start putting faces to some of the names. This was also my first visit...

    Computor advice needed

Maybe I'm not reading this right either but my interpretation of what Alan is trying to do is end up with a table with a heading row at the top and a column at the left which are both in 14pt but names in all the other cells at 12pt. In that case selecting all or some of the rows or all or some...

Timber Sizing for a Bed Frame

I'm hoping to get to the Good Timber Show tomorrow and it seems like a good opportunity to get the wood that I will need for my next project which is to build a couple of beds for the guest rooms. The requirement is for a 5’ double bed that can be split and used as two 2’6” singles. I was...

    Day out anyone?

Only just found this. Looks like a good day out and not too far to travel. Will try to make it on the Saturday. Will be good to put a few more faces to the names on the forums. Anyone from the Cambridge area want a lift? Andrew

    Small fume Please excuse

Ahhh. I get it now. Just needed to turn on animated gifs. [which I keep turned of because of all the annoying advertising that used them - and don't get me started on Flash] Andrew

    Small fume Please excuse

Nope. Just a little red cross, which is exactly what I get if I try to access the image directly.

    Older Woodrats

Of course, the older models like yours have the advantage of having aluminium extrusions for the clamps and not plastic ones that can bend. Mike Humphries recommends filling the plastic ones with plastic metal to give them a bit more strength although I havn't done that to mine yet. Andrew

Sale of goods act / credit cards

Just a thought though. Does the Sale of Goods act only cover business to consumer transactions and not business to business transactions. I don't know but it is something that I have at the back of my mind. Andrew

    Ancestry

A good starting point might be: www.genuki.org.uk www.cyndislist.com either are a good starting point for loads of information. or try the message borads at www.rootsweb.com. There are none for Klears specifically but you could try the Cork board under Ireland. Andrew

    Tormek 1206 vs 2600

At the risk of hijacking this thread is there anyone out there who has bought a Tormek and been disappointed with it? Reading all the threads suggests that everyone who has one is convinced that it is the best method of sharpening that they have used. However there are also those non-users who...

    Angle grinder opinions/recommendations

Maybe a bit late but if you are still thinking about buying the Makita I noticed at the weekend that Ridgeons have it on offer at £69+VAT including a free diamond wheel. Andrew

    Left or Right Handed?

Sorry, that was a bit of a generalisation, artistic is probably not the best word that I could have used. References here talk about spatial awareness and maths - possibly even more relevant to woodworking. Also suggesting that we might be better in a fight :-) I have come across a Scottish clan...

Women drivers OF THE YEAR AWARDS

Ditto when I lived in Ann Arbor, Michigan. At least in the parking structures. I was led to believe it was because reversing into a place in a multi-storey led to black sooty deposits on the walls. So actually not a bad rule when you come to think about it. Not so relevant in an open lot though...

    Left or Right Handed?

Watching the discussions about left or right handed vices started me thinking. About 1 in 10 people in this country are left-handed but left-handers are supposed to be more artistic. So do we have a higher than average proportion of left-handers on these forums?

    Screws and pilot holes

I don't know of any hard and fast rules but I normally try for a drill that is the same diameter as the shank (not the thread) of the screw that I am using. Others may have different ideas though and it probably depends on the timber that you are screwing into. Softwoods are probably more...

    Best Detail/Delta Finishing Sander?

I have the Fein but not having ever used any of the others I can't compare the quality of the sanding action. However I have been very pleased with it although I use it more for general DIY than woodworking. It is amazing the number of things that I have done with it and then wondered how I...

    Block Plane

Having got a shoulder place I am now looking for recommendations for a block plane. I don't have one and (for now at least) it will be my only one LN vs LV normal vs low angle ductile iron vs bronze 9 1/2 / 60 1/2 vs 102/103 vs 220 It's only a little slope and I can stop when I want to :-)

What do you think to the latest GWW?

One question that hasn't been asked - and may have a bearing as to what extent Nick takes up the suggestions that have been put forward in this thread is: just how representative of the readership , or the potential readership, of GWW are the members of these forums? There is a danger (from a...

What do you think to the latest GWW?

But I was talking about DIY. We all know that DIYers can do a better job than professionals because we can spend more time doing it and have more to loose if it goes wrong. Andrew
