LV LA Jack + LA Block

OK, I am off the the US next week and was considering getting a decent plane or two while over there. Having read all the reviews and watched all the discussions I was reckoning on getting a Lee Valley Low Angle Jack and a Lee Valley Block. Is there any way in which I am likely to be...

    Timber suppliers - Huntingdon area

I visited the Ely branch just before Christmas. Had to wait for someone to serve me but he took me into the warehouse and between us we selected what I needed. In this case Beech. They were quire happy to move things around so I could look at boards from further down in the pile. Loaded...

    Metabo Jigsaw

There have been a couple of threads recently about choosing jigsaws so thought I would post a quick heads up to say that I received a Protrade catalogue on Wednesday and they are offering the Metabo STE135 plus at £79+VAT compared to normal price of £129+VAT. Looks like they may be stopping...

    Google acquires Sketchup

Ahh, I missed that bit. I only saw the bit about open source. Oh well, keep saving the pennies. Andrew

    Google acquires Sketchup

Not open source maybe - Picasa isn't open source but it is free. I suppose that it is possible that if Google's aim is to try and get as much additional material into Google Earth as possible then they may move to giving Sketchup away as a free download. Andrew

    CAD Gallery - Comments

If they are going in a gallery can anyone post there or do you have to be individually registered for the gallery as well? Not that that would be too much of a problem mind. Andrew

    CAD Gallery - Comments

Just one thought. Is it really sensible to put all the pictures in one thread? For those of us who are still using dial-up it is going to get to be one mighty download. Andrew

This is not a political comment

Perhaps what is needed here is to move the cost of car ownership from fixed cost to variable costs. Abolish the road fund licence completely and put the equivalent cost onto petrol. If the average car does 12,000 miles per year at 40mpg then that is 300 gallons of petrol a year. If the typical...

woodworking show Alexandra Palace IS ON

According to a press release Highbury House Communications in now in administration: I don't know which part organises the show or what the current status is but this at least goes some way to explain the lack of responses. Anyone left is going to have more important things to worry about...

    Selling property via the web

It is. Different areas are at different resolutions. London, and I know Cambridge are certainly high enough resolution to identify individual buildings. Out in the sticks is at a much lower resolution and I guess Malvern is pretty much in the sticks. My sister lives in Wales and that is just a...

Section P electrical installations a true story.

I have always found the IEE On-Site Guide to be a good and relatively compact reference to the essential aspects of the Wiring Regulations as they apply to domestic installations. But note that this defines what regs say about aspects of the installation like cable sizing and earth bonding and...

    New Axminster Catalogue

Has anyone else NOT received theirs yet? Have I been excommunicated because it is a while since I placed an order [1]. Odd, because I have been waiting for the new catalogue before putting an order in. Maybe I'll give them a call. Andrew [1] Am I the only one whose ordering frequency has gone...

    Non-satellite sources for HDTV

Are you sure. I was under the impression that to begin with at least HDTV on Sky would be for premium channels like films. Andrew

    Hotel fire safety

Reminds me of a sign next to the external fire exit door in my room on the sixth floor of a hotel in Thailand. It read: "This fire door has been locked for your security. In case of fire get key from reception" Andrew

    Memory Foam and other mattresses

I bought a memory foam mattress from John Lewis at the end of last year. I hadn't gone in looking specifically for memory foam just a new mattress but after trying several I kept coming back to this one because it just seemed more comfortable. Took a bit of getting used to because there is no...

    Tiling onto MDF

Is it really going to matter for a vanity unit? Before I knew any better I used MDF for the side of my airing cupboard onto which is mounted a power shower. This was sealed with PVA and then tiled on top with a waterproof adhesive and waterproof grout. The shower has been in daily use for the...

    electricity

Actually that is a matter of debate. The major intention of Part P was to force electricians to become members of trade bodies and to issue certificates to report the job so that they cannot evade the tax. The main beneficiary is the exchequer. The majority of electrical deaths in the home are...

    electricity

Actually it has nothing whatsoever to do with the EU. You are referring to Part P of the Building Regulations and these come under the auspices of Mr Prescott and the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister.
