    Drill, needs a motor

Well progress has been made, I got very oily cleaning years of grime from the castings and with a lot of bodging I now have the drill running. Its not pretty, I think maybe I should repaint it at some time, it would appear to of started life battle ship grey, been then covered in bright red...

    Centec Senior Router

I quite agree, I used a Bosch pof500 in a table for edge moulding for years, that one will go on for long time. :D

    sawtooth or forstner bit?

Andy, I have not drilled 2" holes but in hardwood I find this sort of bit works well for deep holes I have a boxed set of metric ones while that one is 3/4" and came from Tilgear. I have seen them in bigger sizes but can't remember where. Olly bought an Armeg Wood Beaver bit to drill...

    Back Saw?

Hi, There are a number of weston saws that are back saws, they all have a 'back' fitted to the blade, this adds stability to the blade helping to keep it straight in use. On the bigger back saws the extra weight makes them cut faster without needing the user to try and push down on the blade...

Church Pew to Corner Bench Build

I would agree, a pine of some type, definitely not oak, but it should be old growth pine. Nice and stable and it makes a lovely smell in the shop when you cut it. :D I bought a few old pew seats from a church that was replacing them with modern seating, if you look here you can see a small...

    Workshop Tour!

While I can cut bread straight, LOML can't and I have suggested the band saw could be the best solution for getting nice neat slices. :-k

    Varying motor speed

Well I don't think so, I looked at one of their units and here from their web site I think this is misleading, induction motors are synchronous in their design. The units they are selling will work with what I know as universal motors, basically brushed DC motors that run on AC or DC, like...

    Honing Guide and Squareness

Matthew, These one of these assumptions causes lots of problems, I am thinking of old woodie irons that where often tapered, making it tricky to set them up in a jig. Paul shows a good jig setting guide, but if you already have a skewed edge, correcting it is hard.
