Quangsheng No. 5 Bedrock Pattern Jack Plane

I think John's point was that LN copied AND improved, which is progress, whereas QS copied and just manafactured cheaply, which is just "undercutting". However I think of it like this. I do relatively little planing, however would like a set of nice planes, as I like all my tools to be nice...

    Grinding jigs etc.

Thought it better to add here than start a new thread. I have the tiger 2500 and the tormek turners kit. I did get the honing wheels fitted by putting on the same side as the main wheel, is this a bad idea? Also the wheel does appear rather soft, and mine was very untrue to start with, so...

Track Saws. What point am I missing?

Sounds like I was lucky to get one, and I can't even use it for the next 3 weeks!

    Stanley number 78 depth stop.

You see a lot of 78s on the bay though, so sooner our later some rust ridden sole scratched unboxed piece of junk will surface under the antiques section ;-)

    Mitre Square Accuracy

Look on this video, at 14 minutes. http://logancabinetshoppe.com/blog/2009/06/episode-3/ Basically you do a square line on a board, then draw an arc through 0, 90, 180 degree positions (basically you could draw a semi circle). Then you put compass on points where circle overlaps your...

    Stanley number 78 depth stop.

Buy a really bad knackered cheap 78 from fleabay and recycle the parts you need. You'll get a couple of "free" blades too!

Axminster - doing a disservice to woodwork

Maybe they removed them cos they were rubbish ;-)

Hi, and, I want a bench sander but....

I have a cheap one like this. I tend to wish also it was on it's side and had a table... I have looked at theseon axminster etc, and they seem to be called linishers? They are more expensive of course. Tbh i rarely use the belt part, and if i did buy again would get a much larger disc only...

    Mitre saw

There was recent article in british woodworking about this. There was one makita that was rated very well against the festool, although the festool did just edge it.

Dovetail Saw vs B&Q Tenon Saw

If you don't find any in north london, south london hardwwods in croydon is excellent.

Axminster - doing a disservice to woodwork

I think the op point is that a newbie wouldn't know to send it back. A newb should do research, read blogs, and talk to local experts, however someone like axminster can't really do this level of control. Somewhere like workshop heaven has that personnaly selected aspect, however is therefore...

    Veritas marking gauge...

The reason is that the bevel draws the gauge against the wood tightly. Done the other way it will have a tendency to push gauge away from the piece. The gauge is set up so the edge of the bevel us the correct mark, hence you will not have a bevel on your final piece. Personally I find this...

Track Saws. What point am I missing?

Just got my 55r from Shaws electrical in Croydon. He says they've been flying off shelves and some people bought them whilst I was just drooling over the festool section of the shop. Have to wait to get to Italy before I can play though

Quangsheng No. 5 Bedrock Pattern Jack Plane

I got a quangsheng from workshop heaven and very pleased with it. As an "amateur" it feels like a pro tool and high quality, easy to use. I have not checkked flat / square etc to a massive extent, ie to millionths of a mm, and don't have huge experience with larger irons etc... however I got a...

Track Saws. What point am I missing?

what niggles do you have with festool/makita, as i am in the market for a good plunge saw, and was thinking festool due to cleaness of cut, and generally the quality... however watching the Bosch video, it looks good too...

    Minature Birds

Small village in northern Italy. They are made from polystyrene and other birds and pieces, however perfect for interior ornaments. I can bring some on my next trip if anyone wants.

    Minature Birds

ok, even when i rotate on phone, is still sideways, so one Photoshop edit later.... i was quite happy with this as a first one, and since made with blue and red birds/butterflies with woods that contrast / go nicely with the colours... PS the bird is about 1" tall, so quite small.

    Minature Birds

not sure if you can see thus, however this is a prototype I made, the roof overhang is to small, but I got nice matching butterfly which I think adds nice effect, about £2 the pair.
