    Dovetail issue.

Remember that white glue is water based and will make the wood swell slightly, so better a tiny bit loose than hammering it in. Otherwise by the time you've spread the glue on all pieces and ready to go you might need severe force.

    New workshop machinery

I think Karl now has enough space to set up a launderette without noticing... I was just pointing out that he was given permission years ago, and may not have noticed!

Cyclones - a couple of questions:

    1. The idea would be to catch particles in the bag I would think. If you have a place to vent outside, that is safe and proper to do so, and don't care about losing the warm air, then do it, however i doubt it will make much difference to the suction power. 2. why not put the bags in the...

    New workshop machinery

Karl, I see from other posts you have just rented a nice new space quite recently. However looking at this post, it seems you were given permission ages ago and missed it ;-)

    Woodworking accessories - rant!

I made a toy monster truck, and someone said they wanted to buy one. I worked out that with materials, overheads, labour etc, was going to cost about £700. Even if i batched them, still about £400. They said no way, what are you doing? I replied, having fun, creating unique and high quality...

    Wood prices.

Wanted to compare my prices here to uk prices. I've adjusted for euro rate plus to an 8' by 4' board. Which is about 3sq m so divide by 3 for sqm prices. Spruce plywood 18mm £45 Spruce plywood 12mm £32 Birch plywood 18mm £77 I also got a board of birch. 3m lomg by 6cm thick by 25cm wide...

    Picture Frame Fixings

I have a rebated frame, and will put in there plexi, mounting card, picture and backing board, and then need something to hold it in. I have seen little black clips that you push in to the wood, however can't see where to find them online. I found these which may work better if there is not...

    Sanded garden furniture, what now?

I had to restore a piece recently, that had been out for 8 years with no treatmet and was just grey and horrible. Did the full works and looks great now. My preferred routine is a bit of all the above. Light sand every 4 years, 2 quick coats of oil with a cloth every 2 years. Certainly could...

    Loose Chuck Check

Just wanted to update that Peter from toolpost has been working with me on this every day, and been extremely helpful in every way. We think that possibly the lathe register is just slightly too long, < 1mm perhaps, so the chuck does not go all the way on. Getting a replacement body. If that...

    Another sled question

Loads of examples on the web, but basically you make your sled, then take say a 24" square board and cut all 4 edges, and then if you are steve you can cut an extra one for good measure :P Each time you place the just cut edge against the fence. The end result is that your error is magnified...

Found an interesting thing while cutting through some timber

What Hudson has not yet revealed is whether it worked. Did the bullet kill the tree, or did you have to hang, dry, and quartersaw it to finally finish it off?

    Another sled question

ah.... that explains it, i had 12", 14", 16" and 18" pieces, and those pesky 45 deg angles just weren't working out for me..... biggest problems I had were: - cutting and fitting accurate runners when they are 8mm x 13mm - the fact that the fence rails on back and front were higher than the...

    Another sled question

Final joint is "good enough", however not perfect. I might take a few pictures of the whole process.
