    Possible drain block issue

A toilet pipe does not normally smell much at all when removed as clean water should swill all waste away, so good chance is partially blocked and backing up. Silicon around the seal stops the smell sure but does not cure the problem. It could be that he has not seated the pan connector...

    Non toxic treatment for birdboxes

The new boxes are ready for next spring as the ones we have currently are showing their age. For roof I either use an old slate or the two I have made this week both use an angled ridge tile cut in half, which looks more attractive. Anyone used this Eco Wood stuff? Its cheap Eco Wood Preserver...

    Non toxic treatment for birdboxes

Am in process of making a number of new birdboxes for the garden. Normally put them up as raw wood, but am wondering if there is a non toxic wood preservative can use which will prolong their life?

Hope to remove old sticky finish

Have in family an old probably 100+ year old mirror, with a varnish (shellac?) finish on the surround. The issue is that under the varnish is a painted design, so cannot sand off the old finish; there are also a number of brass ornamental screwheads around the perimeter. Does anyone have any...

    Burgess BK2 bandsaw grrr

Thanks v much Dizjasta, I haven't got a manual so that really does help. When I got the saw, the white flanged pulley was bottom left so just assumed that was where it went- as I said band refused to stay on. Going to use it for wood, so reassuring the 3 red wheels are how is meant to be. Id...

    Burgess BK2 bandsaw grrr

Progress... Had another blade, tried that but fell off also. Taking white flanged pulley off and studying does not appear warped, but have fitted a spare red pulley in place of flanged one, adjusted pulley centring, blade guides etc and blade has stayed on and is centred!!!! After rotating by...

    Burgess BK2 bandsaw grrr

Hopefully something daft I'm doing/ not doing. Just been given a Burgess BK2 bandsaw, think BK3 pretty much same? Problem is no matter how I adjust the tension/ tilt the tracking roller the band will not stay on. It rides up the flanged roller and pings off. Things I have tried: 1. Prev owner...

    Woodland Workshop on TV

Thoroughly enjoying Woodland Workshop on Quest channel- making an oak and resin table, also full size motorbike sculpture using chainsaw and rotary tools. Good for inspiration and certainly a better alternative to mainstream tv!

    Damp on old chimney breast

Hi GregMcateer, Sympathise; we had our chimneys removed to below the tile line about 2 years ago and tiled across, but were still getting damp/ condensation issues on both ground and first floor levels. Finally found problem- the chimney was originally removed to barely just below tiles, which...
