    Should I feel guilty?

I remember staring at a thin black line of ebony shavings in my dust extractor once, saying to myself that must be 10 quids worth! My ebony needed squaring up so little option to bandsaw some off and save it a veneer, it did pull on my conscious though. It is fairly easy to do it on the...

    chevalet de marqueterie

I saw, a couple of years ago one of these being demonstrated in France. It was put through it's paces against a high quality fret saw (Hegner). It was far superior (which somewhat surprised me) and to make sure the instructor was not kidding us he gave us all a go of both machines and again to...

Machining aluminium on the Rat and an over-the-top stop

Tony I've seen people put a rubber sleeve on Micrometers in our metallurgy lab, they roll the rubber sleeve over the micrometer to lock it in place and roll it back to adjust it. Worked well - maybe worth considering. So you have micrometers and digital callipers, all I use is a series of bits...

Rojec, Jet, sedgwick planers and planer thicknessers help.

After years of working with a Scheppach 2600 I upgraded to a Felder Planer Thicknesser recently (500 series) and I must say allowing for the jump in price it is a world of difference from the old one (which still is her and in permanent thicknesser mode. I'm now saving my euros for a Telder...

I saw one made the other day like this, it was done using IKEA veneered table tops (which are torsion boxes with a paper inner and wood blocks where the legs screw in and a wooden frame). This guy built if for a portable model railway system and was very nice, hinged and even room between when...

    Well I'm all depressed again

The vol III of Betty Norbury's mission to market the incredible skills of UKs furniture designer makers has finally arrived. Bespoke it's entitled and has David Savage writers chair on the cover. The level of skill and design is mind boggling and I must say had me slumped in the chair...
