    Chuck Problems

If you end up getting your money back then I can vouch for the Bosch that I have, no issues in this regard at all.

    Shotgun stock lengthening

I'd get an extra thick recoil pad and do it that way myself much simpler.

How warm should table saw pulleys get?

Cheers for the replies guys. I don't know whether belts need to bed in or something but I backed the tension right off and it still seems to be running fine now, no slippage. Definitely had it too tight before, it's cooler now. Everything is nicely aligned as far as I can tell.

How warm should table saw pulleys get?

Thanks, that's what I was going to do based on this experience. New territory for me as I've not had a belt driven one before!

How warm should table saw pulleys get?

Ok thanks I'll have a play with them tomorrow. Before I was getting a fair amount of slip when I put the blade under load so it sounds like I've gone too far the other way! Cheers sunnybob.

How warm should table saw pulleys get?

Happy Saturday all! I've nearly finished getting my startrite 175 up and running and wanted to check something... It currently has the standard 1.1kw motor fitted, with new belts. I've set the belt tension to allow a quarter turn between finger and thumb with firm pressure which I understand...

    Best Clear Spray For Plywood?

I'm going to say yes, but have very few I'd class as "middle ground" usage. By that I mean I either have things that are purely stands (vac/cyclone wheelie unit for example) which still looks clean and tidy, or things that get abused (off jobs workbench which has a sacrificial ply top that gets...

    Routering Cast Iron (continued)

Pretty sure if he was doing this there is nothing that's going to endanger his steel gonads :D

    Best Clear Spray For Plywood?

If it's just in the workshop then I tend to leave them bare.

    Mitre saw advice

If you want to do it in one go then you'll need that much, but you'll need a big saw for that, which will either be expensive as an scms or limited as a chop saw. Personally for the sake of a few (?) cuts I'd just mark all round the timber and cut from two sides. The rage is good for the...

    Starting to work with metal?

Knife making is a fantastic suggestion actually, minimal tools but you can create some stunning pieces with practice.

    Motor upgrade for Draper lathe

When do you perceive it as lacking power? There might be some pointers this community can give straight off. I've turned 12 to 14 inch faceplate stuff on my little coronet major without issue, but I have to be aware of depth of cut at times.

    Starting to work with metal?

You say he's done some smithing, why not get a forge set up? You need very few tools to be able to do a lot with it.

How To Cut Mitred or Mitre Dovetails WIP

I'm not looking to do this at present custard but just wanted to say thanks for such an excellent tutorial, thoroughly enjoyed reading that and found it easy to follow.

Sealing End Grain - Picnic Bench

Exterior woodwork novice here. Why wouldn't the same sort of paints you use for exterior woodwork work just as well for the end grain?

    Skip Find - Wood ID

I'd still say oak for the left piece. On the right what is the grain like? I think it's beech.

    Website advice (tooltique)

I may be barking up the wrong tree here, but if you're looking to learn then I'd recommend the path I was encouraged to go down. I picked up an old 4 1/2, stripped and refurbished it (couple of hours if you're a novice) and set it up from scratch. Now I will never claim to be a plane guru, but...

    Battery Blues

    Startrite TA145 Advice

Evening all, I'm off to look at one of these saws later, a single phase variant. Looks in good nick, but I have a question... I fully intend to build whatever saw I get into an outfeed and wing-extension table - my question is around the guide rail for the rip fence. The 145 has a plain...
