    Weather....

It was our old currency system that drove the change in 1971. There was a huge educational effort to switch the UK population over to decimal currency. Unfortunately it led to instant price increases as goods and services were 'rounded up' and many instances of low level fraud. Little effort was...

    Fixing door lining gaps...

If you cannot alter the linings to bridge the gap you could re-run the architrave to cover the gaps or pack out the hinges with some cardboard set into the rebate (this assumes you have a tighter gap on the hinge side). If it were me I'd bite the bullet, bin the template and chop out the linings...

    Weather....

The only f wit with any political clout (and even that is debateable) that promotes such loony ideas here is Jacob Reece-Mogg, who wants the UK to return to imperial. As it is we Brits stumble on in many cases using both, converting on the hoof 'twix the two (I use Google it's far easier)...

    War office chairs

Yes, it was very popular in the 80's and early 90's when stripped pine and sandlewood became popular. Killed the woodworm mind you!

    Joke Thread II

Thomas The Tank Engine huffed and puffed as he pulled out of Paddington Paddington rolled over and had a post-coital cigarette.... (I will so miss Mock The Week)

    T-Track recommendations

I've bought from Banggood, Amazon and Woodworkers Workshop. It is a bit of a minefield as the styles and sizes vary enormously (many are imperial, developed for the US market). I got some great help from Woodworkers Workshop Tech Support.

    Remote control cars?

For reasons that totally escape me, my brother-in-law bought me a RC Defender (new style) for Christmas. I don't think I've ever owned an RC car and certainly don't want one now, so its going to my 5 year old great nephew. I don't think it was particularly expensive and he did redeem himself by...

    Thoughts on this project

That's a point, ivory normally yellows with age and they do look far too white to me. I doubt the owner wants to replace the top though and lying isn't right.

    Thoughts on this project

They might be glued in with hide glue so you could try warming them with a dremel torch? Also if they soften then they're plastic. But don't do anything until you have carefully traced each one and also taken close up photos..

    Tarting Up Ceiling Beams

+1 for the Bahco 665 scraper. We have one oak beam in our utility room that was covered in layer upon layer of thick paint as shown in the before and after shot below. I used a heat gun and a bahco then applied stained furniture wax with a shoe brush. I found wire brushes scratched the surface...

Advice needed - How this entrance can be thermally insulated?

Desiccant (passive) only works well in a cold room or workshop. So you're right to use a mains ordinary one. You can hire them but they do tend to be a but industrial and ott and noisy so best to look online first. If you want to buy one to use in your workshop or as a very efficient laundry...

Advice needed - How this entrance can be thermally insulated?

To speed it up I highly recommend a dehumidifier, desiccant if its a cold room, ordinary if its warm.

Advice needed - How this entrance can be thermally insulated?

Agreed. OP could take a look at superquilt ot similar, fit battens and staple then counter batten then pir insulation. The superquilt will act as an excellent vapour barrier as well as insulation. I suspect a couple of things are going on here. As well as insulation a good, small desiccant...

    Gout 😥

Something weird just happened to my first reply attempt but this is what I said: A hospital consultant once told me that the biggest burden on the nhs was frail and elderly people being kept alive by statins. Now my 92 year old mum, who has zero quality of life with end stage dementia and a...
