    A Question of band saws

No doubt the question has been asked before but it doesn't seem to have been covered too recently. I have a T/S and Thickness / Planer, both from Elektra Beckum and I have to say they both work very well. I'm now considering a bandsaw and am pondering keeping it in the family so to speak, but...

    workshop vac

I have one of these and have to say it works well. No use for the SCMS or The Big Triton Router with the powertake off, but it's plugged in to the same socket as the SCMS so no big deal to flick 2 switches instead of 1.

I'm a bit concerned about the 6A rating as well!!

    Starter switch problem-UPDATE-sorted.

Look at the instructions for the new switch, I suspect 1 end will be the input and the other the output. Read which needs to be L, N and Earth then just disconnect the cables from the old switch and put them in to the new, Brown = Live, Blue = Neutral and Green / Yellow = Earth in case you...

    What hinge?

The kitchen style ones will work for an internal fitting door as you have shown, just not the standard ones, you need to get some specialist ones. But they are reasonably easy to get hold of.

    What hinge?

The problem is your picture is misleading. Your pivot point is different for the door shut vs door open. The sort of kitchen hinges being discussed can be purchases for doors that sit external to the carcass, as with most kitchen units, but you can also buy other that will work for doors that...

    I don't understand this

Interesting what he is saying about the thicknessing, while his board may be flat with parallel surfaces, it strikes me the edges will not be a 90 degree to the faces and so will require removal on the TS or similar to rectify. In otherwords, rather than a rectangular cross section you'll get a...

    Cam Locks

Hmmm £250 is a tad steep. I may look at using some Ally, seems to be pretty cheap and would a bit more resilliant than MDF.

    Cam Locks

Is there a jig out there to allow accurate drilling for a cam lock? I expect I could make something with some off cuts and a dowel, but just wondered what others used.

Black & Decker Workmate - Do you?

I have a cheap and cheerful B&Q one that is useful for odds and sods, mostly the portability. In the garage I use an old table top on a couple of saw horses. It has some strips of MDF set at 90 degrees screwed to the underside which can be handy for sawing and clamping.

    Pocket hole jigs.

http://www.screwfix.com/prods/44682/Dri ... e-3-Pieces may be useless, but I picked one up today while I was in screwfix, I'll have a play layer.

FOR SALE FREUD FIVE PIECE CABINET & MOULDING SET

Just bought some rail and style bits from Rutlands otherwise I could be interested.

    Door mitre??

Depends what you are trying to do, the tornado ones I bought are for a minimum of 20mm, although I have managed to use them on 18mm although there isn't much meat at the rear of the rebate. If you have very thick wood, you can always flip the rails and styles to give a matching moulding on both...

    Door mitre??

It may not be what you want to hear, but I use a rail and stile router set from Rutlands!

The EU has now banned Nitromors

There have been quite a few deaths from people drowning in rivers, but they haven't banned those...yet! There are countless chemicals and products out there that are potentially fatal if you don't excersie suitable precautions, this just smacks of nannying to me.

    Big Triton Collet Lock Woes!

Many thanks for your kind offer Ray, but I spent an hour or so tonight with my jewellery files and some emery and have manged to clean it up sufficiently for it to operate again.

    Big Triton Collet Lock Woes!

It's the chuck with the indentations, it looks like the edges of the indentation have got chewed up so it's now the burr that's stopping the pin coming out cleanly.

    Big Triton Collet Lock Woes!

Certainly no rust on the router, but possible the temperature and condensation could be an issue, it seems to be the plastic push button that's tight rather than the metal, guess the plastic doesn't shrink as much in the cold. I may ease the knob with a bit of emery and then some silicon lube...

    Big Triton Collet Lock Woes!

I fired up the big triton in the table tonight and there was a horrible grinding noise. Switched off and took a look to find the collet locking pin hadn't freed properly and has made a bit of a mess of the collet. Freed it all up and set up again and it failed to free again. Think it's going...

Item for sale for those who don't sharpen freehand

It's more expensive, but I'd go for the Veritas one, I've got one of these and they tend to rock a bit and wear a channel in the stone. The veritas has a much wider roller.
