How much will a new workshop cost????

I put some of the costs in my build thread. We have a double brick garage (5m x 5m) with a 3mx3m workshop at there rear. The basic build ran to over £15K. So the answer to your question is it will cost anything from £200 for a 6'x6' garden shed up to several £K for a brick built affair.

    B&Q Bargains

I got my crappy table from Aldi for about £20 IIRC. Fence is equally as bad as people describe for the other cheapies, but it'll do for the next couple of months till I build something more substantial! Big downer was no mitre gauge!

    I hadn't - and I have found just what I was after - thanks!

Looking for a particular door handle

Hadn't thought about fabricating one, but I guess that's a possibility!

Can you stand another workshop thread?

Sure, but the door will be on the garage side rather than the workshop side, so I'm not too worried about it.

Looking for a particular door handle

Had a look at what I'd call the usual suspects but I suspect I need something a little more specialised! I'm building a sliding door for the workshop and I want a flush / recessed handle so the door will slide all the way back without fouling. Not easy to describe, but I've seen the sort of...

Can you stand another workshop thread?

Well folks, I've done a bit more. There is now a partition between the garage and the workshop. Wide enough to get the table saw through if I need to, and deisgned to allow the SCMS to operate with long lengths through the door! SCMS will be the other side of the parition in due course! A...

    Garage Contents Insurance??

Does the garage being alarmed help matters? Our is another zone on the house alrm system, which has an auto dialler. Garage has PIR's as well as contacts on the doors and satellite sounder to boot.

The bricks are cut at an angle to follow that of the rafters. The exterior is then covered with a barge board. No, we used Tyvek roofing felt which is breathable and is supposed to negate the need for additional ventilation - seems to work, we have the same stuff on the house. The roof is a...

    Nail Guns

I use construction adhesive and some 1" nails in to the underlying door frame, punch and fill. Skirting is held on with construction adhesive - so far it hasn't moved and with the quality of modern adhesives, I doubt it ever will

At the end of the day, this is a garage and there are no permenant sources of heat in it. I do have portable heater which will be used if it's really cold in the workshop, but to be honest the ventilation is such through the garage that I'm not too concerned about condensation. Add to that the...

    Byrons Official Workshop Build Thread

Looking good! Plasterboard is certainyl cheaper - I used some on the walls of mine at the sort of height I won't be putting hooks and the like. 8'x4' 9mm ply £12 a sheet about a fiver for the same size of plasterboard. I'd also be tempted go with slightly thicker than 9mm if I was doing it...

It's 100mm fibreglass roll from Wickes. About the cheapest stuff I could find, but not a lot of fun to handle. You can see it in the foreground of the picture below. 3 rolls has done the lot

Time for a couple more pics. It's all a bit piecemeal at the moment as I can drywall the ceiling without some assistance and helping hands have been rather intermittent over the weekend! We'll start with an external view looking down the garden The window wall is now pretty much complete. A...

See photos earlier in the thread - however the screws holding the ply on to the studding will be a bit of a give away as to where the studs are! :D

Garage falls under Part P, my sparky will be installing the MCB in the garage and hooking up the armour cable, at that time he'll check over what I have done and sign that off under Part P as well. He advised on the required cable for each of the circuits and supplied it. Drainage was...
