Timber Suppliers: Where to buy and how is it priced?

I don't disagree. However, I have to say my local Travis Perkins are always very helpful, know that I know what I want to achieve but may not posess the terminology to express myself in a meaningful fashion and between us we usually figure out what I need.

    workshop lighting

I use a combination of Halogens and Flourescent strip. Strip are cheap to run and kick outless heat, but sometimes the spots can be handy for a little more specific direction light

    Pegboard

OK, I can find loads of places that do pegboard accessories but I can't seem to find anywhere that does the actul pegboard. I'm looking for 25mm spacing, in either plastic / metal, approx 1m x 1m. Anybody know of a supplier, preferably in the Midlands?

    Workshop Insurance

I have my insurance with More Than and they said tools in the workshop were covered as long as no single item exceeded £1800. The ones that do, need to be recorded specifically on the policy to be covered.

    Air compressor

They have a big storage depot on an airfield in Nottingham. A few months back they had a sale and I picked up one of their compressors for about £50 (the shuttle). Mine leaked when I bought it, they didn't seem too keen to do anything so I suggested PTFE tape and they told me to go ahead. It...

    Safety - Teak Oil Rag

I think (don't hold me to this) the spontaneous combustion issue with Teak (and linseed oil) only applies to natural fabrics such as cotton. Having said that, I just seal my cloth in a plastic bag after use. It keeps it reasonably pliable for the short term and I'm yet to have a fire.

Complete cast iron tooled workshop for sale

Seems things have changed a bit on eBay, you used to be able to see the username of the bidders, seems you now just get "Bidder 1", "Bidder 2" etc. It used to be a while back that people would create a load of bogus accounts such as "Bidder 1" with no feedback etc and bid the auction up. Has...

Can you stand another workshop thread?

:P With the older models I'd be inclined to agree, but it seems to have grown up somewhat in the Mk3, however, there isn't any wood in it let's change the subject :D Having said that, I did help my Dad with the restoration of a 1934 Riley kestrel which did have and ash wood frame with an...

Can you stand another workshop thread?

Well things have been a little slow over the last couple of weekends, got a new 4 wheeled toy to play with :D Anyway, moved a lot of the wood out of the way creating some room in the garage for said new toy. I'm building a single and double cupboard / work bench type affair There are...

    Making a hoover/extraction

    1) I doubt it's going to be powerful enough to move shavings, assuming it's just a ventilator fan 2) You need to stop any waste getting in to the fan blades as they won't be designed for materials handling and will break / clog very quickly. You'd be better looking on www.freecycle.org as...
