Anyone here explain re my PC problem please?

An outside possibility for computers running slow - Thermal throttling. Hoover out the case, if the heatsink is clogged with dust a clean dry paintbrush can help. You can spend a surprisingly long time looking for a techie solution to a pretty basic problem.

    Westray Craft Fair

I'd have bought your puffin key hooks. Very cute.

One tool to rule them all ...

The other functions make sense to me, but who thought that it should double as a rebate plane ? I'm always perplexed as to how I usually end up dripping blood when using my Veritas shoulder plane, without any idea of how I did it. Can you imagine marking a job out with that ?

    ID on woodworm

I guess it won't fit in the microwave ... works great for wooden planes though.

    Spearior 88, a few questions

I have a Spearior 88 here, with the red medallion. The dowel has a wooden plug at the bottom, and a plastic one like nabs shows at the top. The handle does not look like beech to me, the finish is worn through at the corners and it does look like a lighter "mahogany" of sorts or Iroko that's...

Does it come with the plane?

Yes, there's a better shot of it in the background of the photo of his helmet.

    OOooops - help needed

If the oil were non-drying, or at least not fully cured, I might try spreading some wood ash over it an leaving it a bit. Sort of like you'd use the stuff for soaking up oil spills on a driveway. Then wood ash as a paste with water spread on - the potassium oxide forms potassium hydroxide...

    Cannot Varnish ??

Argh, me too ! I know we were talking about non-yellowing finishes the other day, but I've never had one go quite carrot coloured

Anyone made their own chisel roll?

I made one for smaller tools using the leg of a pair of jeans, I think I got the idea from Roy Underhill. Cheap if not so durable.

    "600" Axe

Indeed: https://www.gransforsbruk.com/en/produc ... s-axe-file The one underneath is a pair of diamond plates, but the top one is just a file.

Crown tools customer service. Second to none

I too have had super service from Crown. I bought some of their mortice chisels which I was not completely happy with the finishing of; they replaced them with "good 'uns" (Sheffield speak) without hesitation.

    "600" Axe

The shape looks French to me, in which case could the 600 be grammes ? Looks possible.

Best finish for three plank pine table and chairs

I find linseed a bit smelly, though more a lingering aroma than the fierce VOC smells. It is also quite the worst for turning things yellow, with some woods surprisingly vividly. I know wax is not greatly durable, but surely no worse than effectively no finish at all, as the OP has been using...

    Stuck threads on Record 405

Presume the bolt has sheared leaving nothing to grip ? Could try a stud extractor, if it is already loose it might work; but maybe the end of the thread is damaged which was what prevented it unscrewing in the first place. Then you have the fun of finding a replacement bolt !

Best finish for three plank pine table and chairs

What was it originally finished with ? Whether you have flaking varnish or a residue of wax or oil might have a bearing. If you are just looking to tart it up for sale, I'd slop on some wax. Maintaining it won't be your problem. I'm sure its value is not going to reward much effort or...

The ultimate sharpening thread - unmoderated.

Comparing a hand cranked grinder to rubbing on a flat stone is surely like comparing using an egg beater type hand drill to boring a hole with an awl or hand held bit. Some gearing can help match the needs of the job to human capabilites.
