    Tensegrity table

I haven't dared try. Although part of me is tempted to test it to destruction, to see which part breaks first. I suppose the question should be equivalent to "could you hang from the central chain?".

    Tensegrity table

Yes, although mine doesn't as much as most I've seen online. I think that's because I've used threaded bolts to attach the central chain to the arms, allowing me to put that chain under more tension than most people have.

    Tensegrity table

Yeah, I went for chunky as I wasn't sure how well thinner arms and M&Ts would stand up to the forces they are under - especially in softwood.

    Tensegrity table

I've seen a number of tensegrity projects recently, and thought it would be fun to have a go at making a side table. My plan was a wooden frame with 5 chains, one at each corner and one in the centre, holding it up, but I was having trouble visualising how many chain links would fit in - too few...

    Narex chisels

Hmm, thanks for all the input. I think I have ruled out the 8105, but I will think harder about the Ashley Iles MkII.

    Narex chisels

Mostly, time. It would probably take me a lot longer to work out which old chisels are good, and which are not. Working out whether old chisels are nearer O1 or A2 would probably be even harder. If they are out of shape then it would either be even more time on the diamond stone, or buying and...

    Narex chisels

Hi folks, I'm looking to get 2 or 3 decent chisels, mostly for small projects, boxes, dovetails, etc, to replace my DIY chisels. My hope is to avoid picking up chisels that aren't good enough, leaving me wanting to upgrade again, without wasting money unnecessarily. I've read some old forum...

Chisel doesn't fit in eclipse-style hone

I'm not sure how I would modify the guide for this chisel. I think I'd have to file away the ledge, but then the sides would still be sloped, so the chisel would be pushed up and out of the guide.

Chisel doesn't fit in eclipse-style hone

Here it is with the chisel resting on the 2 bars: Hopefully you can see that the right hand side (in the picture) doesn't quite fit under the ledge. It looks like you're resting the chisel on the bars and having the guide above the ledge hold the chisel, but that won't really work well here...

Chisel doesn't fit in eclipse-style hone

Hi folks, I recently used an eclipse-style honing guide for my plane blades for the first time, and found it worked a lot better than my previous sharpening attempts, so I thought I'd try it with my chisels too. However, this chisel is quite wedge-shaped and is 9.1mm at the handle end This...

    Spotting drills

Thanks all. I think I'll get a lip-and-spur, jobber, stub and spotting bit of the same diameter and see how I get on. Thanks Wend

    Spotting drills

Hi folks, I'd like to make something with accurately placed holes of various sizes, and thought I'd look at what the options are. It sounds like lip-and-spur bits might be a good solution for sizes for which they are available, and another improvement I should definitely make is getting some...

    Stanley 71 fence screw size

Yes, thank you for the kind offer, but I've not managed to lose it yet  The page I linked to suggests 12-20 is equivalent (close enough) to 7/32″-20Tpi Whitworth, but the table on https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_S ... _Whitworth says that 7/32" is 24Tpi, so now I'm even more...

I'm not sure how this compares to the Stanley/Record/Preston off the top of my head, but https://www.workshopheaven.com/quangshe ... -sole.html is another possibility.

    Stanley 71 fence screw size

Hi folks, I'm planning to make a home for my Stanley 71 and all its parts on my tool wall, but one of those parts is a screw for attaching the fence which I'm sure will vanish if I'm not careful. I thought that I would get an appropriately-sized nut, and either glue that to the tool wall, or...

    Reapplying stropping paste

Hi folks, I have a leather strop, and a tub of chromium oxide stropping paste. Should I be reapplying the paste each time I use the strop, or how do I tell when it should be reapplied? Thanks Wend

    Building a tool wall

Prototyping a flexible lighting bracket: I think I'll probably bolt the top light about where it is and drill a hole through so the cable and junction box can sit on top. The other light has a large bulldog-style-clip built in, so can be clipped anywhere. Hopefully some sort of dowel or hook...

    Fixing a marking gauge

I bought the 6x20 size, and the threaded section is 20mm long. The whole thing is 29.6mm. I bought the size that fitted the task at hand :-). There are probably other listings for larger sizes.
