    Chain saw or sabre saw?

Marcus heres a clue. These saws are often called a "Sawzall" it imitates a hand saw with a back and forth action. You get a wide range of blades and can even run it along a straight edge. It is multi purpose but not a Disston  The limiting factor is the blade length. If you want a chainsaw...

    Chain saw or sabre saw?

Chainsaw are not the most subtle tools for workshop use (although great fun). I love my Makita recipro with the wide variety of blades available it pretty much "Sawzall" every thing from minor tree surgery to car exhaust pipes

    Setting up a new TV

Argos always refund on defective or slightly broken items in my experience. As in "What's the problem with it Sir?" to which you reply "I thought I could smell burning I'll have a refund thanks" you certainly won't have a problem especially if you take your chainsaw

    Concrete Base for Lathe ?

Golly it hasn't been five minutes since you got the thing  Is it a Blister upgrade or something? I don't know about lathes but with large compressors they used to suggest standing them on wood to dampen vibrations

Have we any geologists here? Now with photos.

Aw..don't do that. Its just that your Obsidian idea sounds a bit like Ian Flemings childhood discovery of a large piece of Ambergris.

Have we any geologists here? Now with photos.

Gosh it would certainly have been something wouldn't it  To have been spewn from a volcano in either Scotland or Iceland and transported in its just cooled state to the very edge of the glacier unaltered through thousands of years. Just a thought but given the high incidence of flint in...

Have we any geologists here? Now with photos.

Hi Dave, considering the location if transported by glacier would you expect that sort of bubbly lumpen look (or is that just mud clinging to it)

    Food for thought, Oldie memories.

 While discussing with my 7 year old Grand Daughter what we will grow on our proposed veg patch she said " Oh yes and we must grow Pop Up Peas" and then added "Nanny Sheila always complains we don't leave any to cook" I think the description was because with her little sis she pops the pod...

    Food for thought, Oldie memories.

Many reading this wouldn't know how backwards some parts of London remained. Although an oddity now there were still many propertys without bathrooms and still retaining the old gas lamp fittings etc up until the 80's Don't remember ever collecting milk in a jug but I remember some of the old...

Have we any geologists here? Now with photos.

Could it be the result of a lightning strike? Or even the aftermath of one of the many plane crashes (WW2) in that area. I would think a combination of glass, iron, ammunition and aviation fuel could produce some unusual lumps in the ground.

    Food for thought, Oldie memories.

In the U.K Thrashing around on the cold cotton sheets so the friction warmed them up. School caps and satchels. Grandads enormous jar of rank brilliantine. Manual workers who wore suits and ties. The Working Mans Club Beano. In W.A Hosing the house down to cool it. Not putting your hand in the...
