Jet JPT-310 - how to mount onto a mobile base?

I've got the JPT260 and I basically raised the machine off the pallet by levering the ends just high enough to slip in some plywood scraps, build the base under the machine then lower the machine onto the base. After this is was a case of wheeling the machine off the pallet with a well...

making furniture for my new house

I made my king size bed with ash sourced from timbercut4u - it was all planed to size by them and none of it has/was distorted. However, I did order the timber and build the bed during the summer so I don't know how much of a factor this was in preventing any bowing etc. The wood was stored in...

recommend a finish for a whitewood bench please?

I made one of my benches out of 2x3 and 2x4 B&Q whitewood and varnished it with quick drying floor varnish from Toolstation - cheap enough and a durable finish. Having said that, I am making a bed for my son out of whitewood and am considering either Osmo gloss Polyx or a combination of Liberon...

    Bandsaw advice for resaw.

I've got a Record BS400 and I've had no problems tensioning a one inch 1.3tpi Tuffsaws ripper blade. It flew through 6" tall softwood so you should easily be able to achieve what you want with something similar to the Record and this blade.

My new workshop heater is not very hot. SIP fireball 3KW.

I bought a similar one from Lidl and had the same issue - the fan seems too fast for the heat output from the heating element so just ends up moving air room temperature air around rather than heated air. I now use an old 2kW Philips fan heater which provides instant heat whereas I suspect SIP...

Tuffsaw bandsaw blades a bit long.

I've got a number of different blades from Tuffsaws for my BS400 and haven't had this issue. I only state the bandsaw model number when ordering rather than the specific blade length and I've not had a problem. Are you tensioning in accordance with the tensioning gauge or by feel? I ignore...

A good router for a Leigh dovetail jig - advice appreciated.

I use a Draper router. I can't remember the model number but it is the twin base one so I use it with the fixed base on the Leigh jig.

Need advice on bench / pillar drill

Have a look at the Jet JDP-17F that Axminster are selling through their Ebay shop. I just received mine and it is a bit of a beast! Well made, good power, capacity and speed range. It looks similar to the Axminster AT2801FDP Floor Pillar Drill apart from the handles being different. It is...

Post a photo of the last thing you made

Were those new or reclaimed sleepers and were they softwood or hardwood? I'm thinking of making some outdoor furniture and am unsure which is better/easier to work with.

    router help

If you are happy with the router you have it is worth checking if a Router Raizer can be fitted to it.

    Startrite 352E or Hammer N3800

Just to throw in that I considered similar bandsaws (for hobby use) and went for the Record Power BS400. Why? A few reasons: 1) Good price (D&M show last year) 2) A good long chat with the Record guys at the show and a demonstration on the smaller BS350 convinced me that a BS400 would be more...

    Sanding belts 100x 915

I've used Abtec4abrasives.com for belts that size for my Makita belt sander. If you are buying a range of grits give them a call to see if you can get the quantity discounts.

    SPINDLE SANDERS?

Look out for the Rutlands one too - same as the Draper/Triton/etc. machines but can be cheaper if there is an offer on. I bought one a little while back and haven't had any issues with it. The only thing to check is whether it works out to be better value to buy the version which includes some...

    Evolution 210mm Compound Mitre Saw

I've got one and found there is a fair bit of play in the pivot assembly (not the pivot itself, but the whole bracket). If you are careful you can achieve repeatable and accurate cuts with it. However, I now only use it for metal work because I found the evolution less accurate than a...

    Buying Advice Planer or thicknesser

I've just done what you are thinking of - I've been after a decent planer thicknesser for a while but haven't found one at a reasonable price. I decided to give the Titan ago to see how much use I would find for a P/T. The Titan was great out of the box. However, I noticed that when...

    Table saw blade help please.

If you want to make a rebate for seals why not look at a router as an alternative? At least this way you won't need to play around with the height of the riving knife on the table saw (assuming it will sit above the height of the blade).

    Titan Planer Thicknesser

I've just bought one of these too. So far, I have found the thicknesser to be great but the planer outfeed table is a little too low (getting snipe at the end of the board). I couldn't find a way to adjust the outfeed table but did have a go at lowering the blades. Unfortunately this has now...
