    lathe chuck

I have this chuck which I`ve just recently used to make some bridge pins for the guitar I`m building. I was never impressed with the chuck because it only has one tommy bar and one hole in the chuck to use it. This means you have to finger tight the chuck onto your work piece and then get...

Anyone used a lathe Copying jig??

You can purchase a good copying attachment here http://www.rockler.com/product.cfm?page ... e%20copier When I bought mine it was $209, but it is now slightly down in price to $192.99. You`ll have to factor in the shipping cost from the states and the import duty and VAT when it arrives. A...

    Veritas grinder jig review

chipp, Yes the Veritas is worth the extra money. I`ll just tell you something about the Axminster rest. I bought one of these quite some years ago for my 6" grinder which I now use for sharpening my turning tools. This rest has all metal bristol knobs and they don`t slip when tightening. The one...

    Veritas grinder jig review

I`ve been mulling over a long time whether to get a whetstone grinder or stay with a dry grind system to regrind my plane irons and chisels. I`ve read all the reviews in the mags and on here and decided to stay with dry grinding. I would have to find space in the workshop for a Tormek or clone...

    Guitars

The steel string guitar is constructed with a tapered dovetail joint. The reason being that the tension of the strings pulls against the back of the neck heel and the best fit possible is required at this point. Of course you don`t have to have a dovetail joint, you can also have a straight...

    Guitars

Well here`s a collage of my Fox bending machine I made. I built light bulbs into my machine but I won`t be using them because I bought a heat belt to use with it. It also has a cut away attachment. Here are my heat belts. The thin one at the back is for bending mandolin rims. I also purchased...

    Metabo BAS 317 Bandsaw

Well I have the smaller Matabo/Elektra Beckum model with 4" cutting depth and have found it to be a lovely little bandsaw. Look what it`s capable of in photo. I also just found out that the mitre slide on my Record BS 350X bansaw fits perfectly on the Elektra Beckum. :) See photos.

    looking for a lathe

Hello Simon I made a picallo snare drum for a freind of mine about two years ago. I think what you are refering to is a staved construction. This was made on my Record CL2 lathe, and even with this smaller drum shell I had to spin the work piece by hand just before switching the lathe on. For...

    Electra Beckum HC260 planer fence

Yes I`ve had some problems with the fence angle locking mechanism. I tightened this up too tight and broke the plastic insert. Could`nt tighted it any more after that. I solved the probem by making a replacement in nylon. I can tighten the fence more securely. As for the knobs hitting each...

    Lie Nielson Squirrel Plane

Hello Philly It`s the flat sole version. I have`nt checked to see if the convex sole version is suitable for archtop guitar carving. If it is, that wil be on the to get list. I use the large Ibex plane for that job but the LN will be just nice for the final smoothing cuts hollowing out archtop...

    Lie Nielson Squirrel Plane

Thought I`d show off my new baby. Aint he sweet ? lovely bushy tail, easy to look after, nibbles on wood. Seriously though, I had to do a little fettling with this one. The blade bed was`nt machined parallel with the sole. The blade was ground perfectly square, but when mounted in the plane...

    Power tools spoil the fun?

I have been enjoying woodworking now for 30 years. My first workshop a 6`x 8` garden shed served me well for many years as I learnt the skills I posess now. I did`nt have any power tools then, ( well just an electric drill ), and every thing I made was achieved with hand tools only. I still have...

    SCMS with induction motor

I have the Elektra Beckum too. Of the two, I would say the EB is the better quality tool. Costs more, but worth it in the long run.

    The new Legacy

JFC Your not a Master Furniture Maker, your a Master Legacy Operator. Who needs to learn woodwork with one of those machines at your disposal. Watched the video and am very impressed. I think I want one, but as I`m mostly building stringed musical instruments, I`ve got to justify the...
