    Kell III and 45deg...

I'm afraid I took the pragmatic approach and kept the Eclipse guide just for the #80 scraper blade. The Kell III then does for everything else. So far... Boz

    Breathing dust

I would also add that it is all very well to focus at the suck end of the problem (big fans, filters etc) but half the problem in dust extraction for the hobbyist is getting the dust into the pipe in the first place - ie the tool end. However large a fan and pipe you use, it will not be...

    Kreg screws in hardwood ply

I've just ordered some sheets of generic 18mm hardwood plywood to make some "quick and dirty" workshop equipment stands. I was going to stick it all together with pocket hole screws and PVA. But I now realise I only have a box of the course 1-1/4" Kreg screws. Will I get away with these? Or...

    STORMONT CHISELS

I've got a couple of firmer's by them, also from my late Grandfather. I similarly found out nothing about them, just the odd one for sale on the 'bay. . But they seem to hold an edge well so I'm happy to keep using them :) Boz

    Router Guard

Superb :). Like you, my drill guard went straight into the bits box - they've always seemed to me to create danger rather than guard against it. I do like your re-use however, I'll do that. Thankyou Boz

    work bench advice

I went the kitchen worktop route here with a pine base. Happy with both. The pine base gets more bashed about as it's such a soft wood, but then it is only a bench :). I'd go with 2 or 3 layers of 18mm MDF as a worktop if I was really on a budget however. Good luck Boz

    Respirator

I've had an Airace for a year or so. It's the first mask that's been OK for me as a spec's wearer (no more misting up), and works with a face visor as well. I wouldn't like to wear it for a full day of work, but for a 2 hour session of machining it suits me fine. Boz

    Saw doctor or new blade?

Thankyou, gasman, for the Oxon Fastenings recommendation! They're also local to me. I've used them for nuts and bolts, but didn't realise they could handle saw fettling - even if by proxy. That solves my saw problem :) Boz

    Camvac motors

Common inlet (the thing on the side of the drum, 63 or 100mm diameter) and two exhausts (the white 63mm things on top). Boz

Stanley 'Sweetheart' #92 shoulder plane: first impressions

Excellent review Eric. Thankyou for warning the rest of us. I've been waiting to see what it is like, as it's been on my wish list since it was announced. I fear it has now been removed from said wish list :(. Good luck with your fettling. Boz

    Circular saw dust extraction

A type of plastic that may be of use if you get fed-up of duct tape is Polymorph - easy to use for odd shapes! Like the others, duct tape is my solution of choice, often with a bit of 40mm water pipe as an interface to the vac's hose. Good luck Boz

New (and first) Workshop! WIP (now with pics)

I agree - two or three coats of cheapo white emulsion with a block brush will do wonders for lightness and I doubt a landlord would begrudge that. Best thing I ever did for my workshop :) Boz

    Redundant!

I've had several colleagues go from redundant to "best thing that ever happened to me" surprisingly quickly. I hope it works out for you as well :) Boz

Is it worth insulating a workshop for 2 evenings a week?

You can get rockwool in 50mm and 75mm "insulation batts" - it's normally used for cavity insulation. Wickes stock it, and many other places. It is a very dense rockwool, so it also better for sound insulation than Kingspan, although not quite as good as thermally, but a lot cheaper. The batts...

    Cleaning up glue squeeze out

Thanks for the ideas here. I always struggle with wiping off with a wet cloth with PVA's of all sorts - just so much mess made and it effects the later finish. Think I'll move on to using a chisel once it's gone rubbery. Boz

New Finish from Chestnut - Offer ends Saturday 1st May!!!

I'll be interested how this goes. Do you have any drying times for it Richard? I've used the Fiddes equivalent for the last year or two and like it, but the Chestnut seems to be available in smaller tins which at my rate of work would certainly help. If Axminster start stocking the 500ml tin...

    Air filters

I suspect there is a lot of "specmanship" with these filters. I would rather they give a true spec, like the Microclene ones, then at least we could compare like with like. They will all have a cutoff slope, with a degree of filtering at smaller sizes than the supposed sharp cutoff that most...

A Guide to Building your own Bench for Noobies?

I learned a lot making mine. I think the one warning I would give is that if you drill dog holes, make sure of your method for making them straight and vertical DAMHIKT . So test thoroughly on scrap before drilling them all. I thought I had, but in practice it wasn't so straightforward :(...
