Suggested upgrade for a Charnwood W650

I have used my Charnwood W650 for nearly 2 years now and have been fairly happy with it apart from one or two niggles, but as I approach retirement from my full time job to spend more time in my workshop I would like to upgrade the W650 to something a little better. There appears to be a large...

    Jet 2424b

I am thinking of purchasing the jet short bed lathe as an upgrade. It is rated at 2.2 kW ( 12 amps). Does anyone use one of these lathes and was any special electricity supply required over and above normal household circuit? Thanks for any advice.

    Thread Cutting

I suppose that's why I can't find anything other than pictures. Is there an alternative to the EZ Threader Pro?

    Thread Cutting

Does anyone know if there is an outlet for the Soren Berger Thread Creator in UK, I have seen EZ Threader Pro which appears to work from the Banjo but the Berger attaches to the Tail Stock. The latter appears to be much more engineeringly sound (I know that's not a real word). Thanks

    Drilling large clean holes.

Some excellent solutions and advice..... Chucking for each hole is not an option, although I did think about that. My forstener bits (of fair quality) do leave a circular mark at the bottom of the hole equal to the diameter of the bit.. I guess that is how most forstner bits are designed so that...

    Drilling large clean holes.

    Drilling large clean holes.

I want to drill 6 45 mm holes partially through an oak platter I am making to hold shot glasses. I have used a forstner bit in my pillar drill in the prototype, which cuts cleanly and with a reasonably flat bottom to the hole. The downside is the point of th bit leaves its mark in the centre of...

If only it were that simple....... you suppose that the bushings I have match the pen kits, I have no idea what the pen kits are supposed to look like finished

Record Power Pen Kits and bushing

Hi, I have bought what would seem to be some obsolete pen kits by Record Power, PPK3, 5 and 9, I also bought some random bushing packs that were on the shelf PBS 2, 4 ,5 does anyone know what bushing goes with which pen clearly PBS 5 does not go with PPK5. Does anyone have a list of which bushes...

record 52 1/2 quick realease vice question

I have recently fitted this vice to my bench, and the advice for facing the jaws is good thank you. The vice I have is missing the countersunk screws to secure the faceplates. Does anyone know what thread they are? Clearly not metric... I am assuming UNC about 1/4 inch or 5/16 dia Thanks

    Newbie bench grinder question

I think it is out of true in both directions. As I rotate the stone by hand I can see the inside edge wobbling. Also radially out by about millimetre or so.

    Newbie bench grinder question

I have just started woodturning and having used my brand new gouges and skews I thought I would turn my hand to sharpening them. I bought a Record 8 in grinder with a white stone. When I run it the stone is clearly not running true. I estimate it to be about 1 mm. Is this an issue if I try to...

    Good starting Chuck 2013?

The Axminster offer was out of stock, so I ordered the 1014 by itself . I also found a local supplier for the Record Supernova chuck at a £110, this came with 2 additional jaws and a screw. This will give me better upgrade potential later.

    Good starting Chuck 2013?

    Good starting Chuck 2013?

I have decided to have a go at woodturning as this has fascinated me since woodwork classes at school. However, until now I have not had the space to follow my dreams. I have ordered a Jet JML 1014, as it receives favourable reviews on this site and many others as an entry level mini lathe I...

    Scroll saw blade life

All this is good to know, as a new scroller ( if that is the correct term) I am just getting the feel of things, I tried to use some very fine blades, yesterday ( 2/0 I think) from Axminster and within a few seconds the cut wass getting difficult. At first I thought it was just me, but clearly...

    Scroll saw blade life

I know this is probably a " how long is a piece of string question" . But: How long can I expect a blade to last? I am primarily cutting hardwoods, oak, chestnut, sapelle, walnut etc. Thickness about 12 to 25 mm. Should I change the blade with each new project?

Home made scroll saw bench slope or not to slope?

Scrimper, I was wondering if rubber wheels would work, I also like the idea of a cupboard and draw, I may copy your idea and do the same. When you say substantial wood are we talking 4x2 or 3x1.5 (or metric equivalents)
