    Emergency/Phone/Intercom

I also have a DECT phone in the workshop. Works well, but have to remember to clean off shavings and sawdust - just to remove any possible fire risk since it remains on its charging base.

    dust extraction

Hi Jaymar, I have the exact same issue. On my RAS, the port on top of the blade guard is facing backward so I intend to have the back of the collector high enough to catch and deflect down the debris. This project is part of a workshop revamp - the plan is to have a single height working area...

    Tormek wet grinder

Yes, the manual is very specific about NOT letting the wheel freeze. You should not leave your Tormek in an unheated workshop in the winter.

    Tormek wet grinder

Any water left in the trough will evaporate after a few days if your workshop is heated - I tend to top it up as necessary then clean it out every month or so. With regard to the leather wheel , I used 3 in 1 oil and occasionally remoisten it when it dries out. I smear a little of the compound...

    Turning Gouges

I need to buy some additional turning tools and are looking for recommendations. I presently have a number of unbranded "Made in Sheffield" tools, some Crown tools and a set of 10, very cheap Chinese tools which I bought to experiment with. Help - Timber Split!

Hi Chris, The corner blocks are only 180 mm long and are attached with the same grain orientation as the panel. The split starts above the block, the panel is unconstrained at this point. When I have finished the project, I'll post some pics! All Before I reopen the split, is there any...

    Help - Timber Split!

Hi Philly The panels are glued to the corner uprights . :( I was careful about the cross grain scenario but the split line does not indicate this was the problem. Scritt was right about the humidity - I let the oak acclimatise my workshop for about 6 weeks before machining it over Christmas...

    Help - Timber Split!

Hi Philly, They are solid end pieces that form the head and end of the base plinth. The design is a completely plain rectangle plinth, no fixings showing, with the futon matress sitting within the plinth on slats supported by two struts attached to the head and end boards. The fixings are...

    Help - Timber Split!

Advice & help please ! I am just completing a King Size Futon bed made from American White Oak. The "feature" end panels are 200mm wide x 30 mm x 1500mm. The assembled bed is larger than I can handle in the workshop, so it was brought indoors for the final glue up. Disaster - overnight, a...

    Chisel advice

I have a few Crown turning chisels - they seem to keep their edge OK - I would guess the steel is the same as used in the Crown standard chisels. - John
