    So this Dovetailing business?...

I know @Peter Sefton has given a lot of info earlier in this thread, but here’s another resource from Chris Tribe, which I found very useful. https://www.christribefurniturecourses.com/index.php/an-introduction-to-slow-dovetailing/ There’s also a pdf for those who like to read rather than...

    New Planer Thicknesser

Here's a picture of my A3-41 as delivered in January last year. The pallet just fits a normal sized pallet truck into the end. I've had this one year. I plane 95% olive wood which is hard and has "crazy" grain in places. I use it every other day on average, although some days it almost the...

Great work. Get her to spray it (and your workshop) silver now for the full experience. I hope you also gave her a 3 hour lesson on plane blade sharpening :D:D:p .

    TH410 Thicknesser

That's great. If you can get it out with a magnet, it's not held captive by anything other than gravity and friction! I'll repair the broken tube first, then make a "missing bit" to suit. I'll report back. Don't hold your breath ;) Many thanks

    TH410 Thicknesser

@MARK.B. Thanks for the pictures. The part I'm after isn't listed in the manual! The tube that's broken is 163. A grub screw, which is 162 has gone missing, but is easy to replace. There is a slot in tube 163 which engages with the metal collar, item 156. It's not listed on the diagram. I...

Thanks. I thought for a moment you meant you’d didn’t fancy taking your covers off! There’s no rush.

Things to while away the day watching on Youtube

Greenfield Guitars No surprise that this is edited to exactly 1:00:00 It's all about precision. Well worth an hour of your time. I have a friend who had one of the guitars. Rather expensive and rather beautiful.

    Furniture Restoration Course

Anyone got any personal recommendations for furniture restoration courses in the North of England? I can use Google, but someone's personal experience is what I'm after. Ideally a week long course where you can bring a piece of your own to work on.

    TH410 Thicknesser

I have a TH410 thicknesser which has broken the speed control. Not a great problem, since it “defaults” to the lowest feed speed, but I may be selling this machine and would like it to be 100%. The part that is broken is shown in the picture. Does anyone have one of these machines and could help...

Indian club turning newby advice please?

Dave Dalby makes Indian Clubs occasionally. Here’s a link to one of his posts, but if you have a search through his posts, I’m sure there’s more detail of wood species etc on other posts. Dave Dalby Instagram

Nearly put this in the joke thread

Actually, my real thought is “training”. Anyone who has worked in any industry with regulations knows about training, both initial and refresher. Sometimes it’s necessary to keep your job. Operating a 2 ton machine at speed, or a 7kg bike with a tyre contact patch as big as 8 sq. cm should...

Nearly put this in the joke thread

I own 3 cars (including a sports car) and 3 bikes, so I'm a menace to someone every time I'm out on the road! I think it's interesting about Highway Code and / or law changes, since many people (me included) aren't always aware of the change. However, my experience is that car drivers and bike...

Thanks Mark. I wish I could find a few empty transits coming back from Italy. The carriage costs are getting very pricy.

Just made a bookcase for a Catholic School who wanted the inscribed top and waney edge sides "to make it look like it was coming out of a tree". 3 shelves were mortice and tenon, the rest housing joints. Made from solid olive wood to the customer's spec. A couple of "in work" photos too.

    Pricing advice

I sell olive wood and know how much it costs me, my customers and their customers. The costs are a)for sawing and kiln drying b) carriage I know of people who will charge £10 for a bowl and some who charge as much as £950 (admittedly that's burr, not olive). Both of them sell their stuff. I...

Your best (and worst) / most surprising woodworking related purchase this year

My "best" thing this year was getting some new abrasive! 3M Xtract™ Cubitron™ II Net Disc 710W (3M Discs). Have used Abranet for a while (and it's still best for woodturning), but the 3M stuff is great. Better even than my new Festool Rotex which I use it on! Bought it after watching this from...
