    Quangsheng No.62 low angle vs No.5 vs No.5 1/2?

Agreed Tony, North American and mainland Europe still offer the custom line. I think Axminster used to carry the custom but it's been absent for a long time.

    Saw Vice Finished

Gave it a quick coat of sanding sealer. Had intended to stain it darker to save it looking grubby in use. But the light timber contrasted against the teeth so well I kept it natural. Now to sort out the Atkins Saw I restored.

    Quangsheng No.62 low angle vs No.5 vs No.5 1/2?

From memory the standard Veritas planes do have a Stanley style chipbreaker. However, it was many years ago I tried one. The custom range never gained traction here and I think they've been dropped from UK retailers for some time. The standard planes are still available though.

    Quangsheng No.62 low angle vs No.5 vs No.5 1/2?

Bailey 5 1/2 from eBay. Usually less than £50. Thought I better check what the point of the thread was 😂

    Quangsheng No.62 low angle vs No.5 vs No.5 1/2?

Edge jointing by hand described by modern proponents if a steady sequence of stop and then through shavings. I adopted it and then learned I didn't need to do it. Traversing is a hipster name given to working across the grain as a first step when using a jack plane. It was being put forward as...

    Quangsheng No.62 low angle vs No.5 vs No.5 1/2?

Hi Jacob! Stopped "stop shavings". Learned to get the cap iron set right. Avoid "traversing" the grain. Reinforced others such as the value of a Stanley #4 etc.

    Quangsheng No.62 low angle vs No.5 vs No.5 1/2?

I know David's posts can be hard to digest, but he's not selling anything which is very refreshing. An interesting one I picked up was not to worry about stop shavings on edges, just learn to use the plane! As much as these threads get a bit heated it's a good thing. Unless there is some...

Typical Sharpening of a Rip Saw Here are a few of David's videos. I turn to him for advice on hand tools. Even after being a professional Joiner for over 25 years I find David's understanding of the nuances of hand tools well beyond mind. That doesn't mean you have to copy and paste his...

    I'm confident they're 01 based on Workshop Heaven's listing.

    Magnacut - Open the Floodgates?

Good to know, thanks David. I had to buy an iron for a block plane and went for a Ray Iles. https://toolsforworkingwood.com/store/item/MS-RIIRON.XX Any experience with them? I like it well enough and they retain the same look as the original.

    Magnacut - Open the Floodgates?

Just for balance, the Fred West reference is a recently deceased US tool collector, not the Cromwell St Fred West serial killer, just in case people thought David's post was off. Based on your experience, if you had a Bailey plane without an iron and let's park making one or NOS Stanley/Record...

    Magnacut - Open the Floodgates?

MagnaCut, a Transformer or a Power Ranger bad guy? Basically, David, no real advantage here for 99% of people? What actual advantages could there be? Someone planing the edges of MDF? I could treat my planes as disposable commodities at those prices.

    Saw Repair

Thanks everyone. Derek, the glue lines are visible if you know where to look but they are okay. Yes, sharpening next. I'm making a vice before I do. I don't like my Woden brand one. You can't do the whole length of the saw without stopping and starting. I'm not a maestro with a file so I like to...

    Saw Repair

Picked up an Atkins a while back. Sadly it turned up with a broken handle, eBay, it happens! Just tidied it up. Making a saw vice at the moment as I don't care much for the Woden one I have.

Hell no! I'll save that expense for something nice. These could have been ironmongery direct 😂. Just cheapies.

Thanks Oscar. Some small brass butts I had left over from another job. Not really nice ones but they do the job.

    Basic Boxes

Thanks chaps. They aren't too time consuming. I would say the hardest bit for is the lid. Tiny clearance gaps and small hinges aren't my normal work.
