Folding Garage Door - Weather sealing/maintenance

So that seal, if I see it correctly would fit along the edge of the door, not that ‘external bar’? I’d worry it would make the door even more tricky to open/close in winter. I think maybe planing a little off that bar at the top and bottom to achieve a more even gap, then a push in seal into a...

Folding Garage Door - Weather sealing/maintenance

Hi All I'm currently repainting my external windows/doors. As I'm doing it I'm trying to correct a few minor problems... My garage has a set of wooden folding doors as shown in the photos. There are two 'sets' of two door panels, arranged so that the central two open inwards, and then the...

Osmo Polyx Oil Raw 3044 Advice

I use disposable scotch brite type finishing pads for osmo raw. The pigment builds up as you apply and you end up with it building up on the workpiece if you don’t change it often. I think it gives a nicer finish as well on the stuff I made - rub it in, then a fresh pad to remove excess and...

Cordless power washer, anyone had one?

I pad about £140 2 years back, and that was a kit with collapsible bucket, soap dispenser, brush and what not. At the time there was only one version, so it looks mine is the cheaper one now.

Cordless power washer, anyone had one?

I bought the Worx one a couple of years back. Intended use was primarily washing down bikes when out on the road before loading them in the van. We feed it from any source - e.g. just dip the hose with filter in a river, or a bucket filled from wherever. Or now that we are fancy, the vans’s...

Fire safety/Fire extinguishers - what to buy etc

I do have a LifePo4 leisure battery, which I believe are bit less dangerous than EV battery packs. However if that's on fire, I'll probably just retreat.

Fire safety/Fire extinguishers - what to buy etc

These are popular in the campervan world, seem to cover most likely types of fire in a van and are very small/light which is a big plus. https://firesafetystick.com/ I’d be interested to hear what people’s thoughts are on these?

Can anyone recommend a decent make of stepped drill bit?

I got a set of Starret hole saws, mainly for van conversion stuff. I was quite disappointed in the amount of runout I was getting as ChaiLatte described. I managed to improve it a lot by doing two things: 1) Not using the 'lock' that holds the arbor in place - a pair of pop-out pins that fit...

    Speaker boxes/cabinets

if they are just MDF with a veneer you don’t like could you not just remove the covering and re-veneer it to your taste? I have some nice speakers that saw too much sun, and peeled themselves psrtially that I’d like to do this to…

    Rutlands Warning!

I’ve had a few things from Rutlands, in obsolete packaging. They came in cardboard boxes. The non-obsolete stuff must be some space age ****.

    Chip extractor 100mm - quiet

I have the same unit from another ‘manufacturer’ and it’s also horrendously noisy/whiny as you say, and not that impressive performance wise. I’d just assumed it was a cheap motor/design… and I just use a small festool vac instead whenever practical to do so.

    4x2 Equivalent in Steel Section?

Hi All I’m wondering if anyone would know what size/type of steel section (likely a C profile) would be an equivalent replacement for a 4x2 piece of CLS16 timber? Intended usage would be to form a bed frame. Currently it’s built from 4x2s spanning between sides of a van (around 150cm span)...

    Tarting Up Ceiling Beams

True, we opted for triple glazing instead of the fancy electrics though. We had 8 replaced when the roof was done last year so will hopefully be someone else’s choice next time it’s due!

    Tarting Up Ceiling Beams

So I thought I'd report back on progress.... I tried a lot of the tips/suggestions above, but in general any kind of chemical (stripper, oxalic etc) gave very inconsistent results. The beams had various kinds of accumulated finishes (bits of paint, various stains/varnishes in various colours)...

Large drill bits - why so long?

Huh - so a smaller pilot bit would also have a similar 'non cutting' tip, but it would be smaller and therefore have less bulldozing to do? For the record I do pilot drill and work up to larger sizes but understood it as the process of removing material bit by bit that made it easier.. Although...

Large drill bits - why so long?

I understood the rest of your list, but are you saying large bits don’t have cutting tips? Or it’s likely to be blunt at the tip, or at least blunter than a small pilot? I don’t do much metal, and feel I might learn something here!
