    Bent drill spindle

Nah, no keyway that I can see either. I messaged they guy I bought it from and he said he thinks he used a gear puller to remove, so might invest in one of those

    Bent drill spindle

Yeah it’s a left hand thread but doesn’t seem to want to move - wasn’t sure if it was threaded on or not. The nut was left hand threaded

    Bent drill spindle

Hi all, so I’m having a go at removing the pulley to see if there’s anything wrong with the bearings etc but I can’t seem to see how to remove the actual pulley wheel after removing the nut (which was a left hand thread) …will the pulley wheel also be threaded on or should this just lift off...

    Bent drill spindle

Okay, so I’ve squeezed my way in around the non painted parts of the floor and took the spindle and quill back out. Nothing obvious wrong with the spindle but guess it’s hard to know without getting it on v blocks as chailatte said. I tried switching the drill on with the spindle and handle...

    Bent drill spindle

I’ve no idea whether it’s been damaged by a previous owner or was a manufacturing defect that the previous owner just somehow failed to notice. I guess the former. Don’t have a metal lathe unfortunately (even if I did I wouldn’t know how to use it!). The guy I got it from said he’d queried...

    Bent drill spindle

Thanks for your detailed response and help - and thanks for linking the manual. As I say, it'll be next weekend before I can get in there and get anything done I expect.

    Bent drill spindle

Thanks for the detailed response. If there is any slack, how do I go about ‘tightening it up’? I can’t really get in there and get it apart until next weekend now as I’ve just painted the floor and the whole place is upside down, but will try to get the spindle out again then and post some...

    Bent drill spindle

yeah, it's very annoying. It actually still drills fairly accurate holes for the purpose of general woodwork, but obviously I'd like it to be true should I ever want more accuracy. I just wondered if correcting the bend (if that's what the cause is) is doable.

    Bent drill spindle

Hopefully this video shows the issue. You can see it sort of knocking the handle too as it’s spinning? All I can think is that it’s the spindle or quill?

    Bent drill spindle

Hi, you can still see the run out when the drill is running with the chuck removed. I will try to post a video if I can later on when I get in there.

    Bent drill spindle

Anyone had much luck or can advise on the best approach to straighten a bent drill press spindle? I got an Axminster AT2001DP second hand but the run out is quite bad. It’s had new bearings, belts and I’ve checked the chuck. The spindle actually seems to have a slight bend in it when I set a...

    Record power cl2 …owners manual?

Thanks for this. I actually got quite a bit with the lathe - various hss tools (good ones too, Henry Taylor, sorby, marples etc). A 4 jaw chuck, extra rests, drill chuck adapter, hole saw/forstener type bits. So I’ve got most of the stuff I need to get going (bought a face mask and respirator)...

    Record power cl2 …owners manual?

Thanks - it does seem like a good Lathe. I’ve been enjoying using it (although I’m a total beginner and haven’t got a clue!) Things like that is what I wanted the manual for. Took me a while to figure out how to hold the bar in place while unscrewing a face plate. I assume it’s just the square...

    Record power cl2 …owners manual?

Ah great - thanks for linking the manual. Is it still easy to get replacement parts for these? Like new belts if they are needed etc?

    Record power cl2 …owners manual?

Hi all, don’t suppose anyone has a link or could possibly share an owners manual for the record power cl2 lathe? Got one second hand but would like to know my way around it. Strangely doesn’t seem to have a cavity to use a knock out bar so you have to just wedge things out…

    Record cl2 36 x 18 lathe

Hi all I might have the opportunity to buy a record power cl2 36x18 lathe (it’s a blue one so early model?) and wondering if anyone can give some advice. The seller is asking for £600. It comes with a variable speed upgrade, quite a selection of different chucks (think one is a 4 jaw), some...

    Dust extraction - bandsaws

This is the kind of thing I’m thinking of…an extractor fan set up next to the window will at least remove the dust to an extent. Those big box fans they seem to use on YouTube DIY air filter videos don’t seem very available in the UK.

    Dust extraction - bandsaws

Air filters seem to be yet another cost…wonder whether anyone has had much luck setting up a home made one? Similar to this?

    Dust extraction - bandsaws

Thanks - it’s mainly the mess that I’m thinking about and keeping the insides of the machine clean. I use a mask when the machine is in operation, and I don’t use it for long periods of time so I think this should be adequate to protect my lungs. It’s the only woodworking power tool I have...

    Dust extraction - bandsaws

That’s a good idea. I’m leaning towards giving a hvlp unit a try, with a similar set up to what Mike has shared.
