So what are peoples thoughts and any potential impact on yourself

Are you sure about that - Italy, Switzerland, France and Spain seem to top the longevity tables ahead of UK by a couple of years plus - assuming you use "not dying" as a measure of how good a health service is.

So what are peoples thoughts and any potential impact on yourself

It is totally irrelevant - "my trope" concerns Labour, not the Tories, who have historically been a party of tax and spend.

So what are peoples thoughts and any potential impact on yourself

Just to build on this - don't forget for the hundreds of thousands of "ordinary workers" who are freelancers hit by IR35, this is something that will go straight out of their payslips. As has always been said - Dogs bark, Cats meow and Labour increases taxes. The only consolation is that if...

So what are peoples thoughts and any potential impact on yourself

Well if a few more people become tax payers here instead of the UK, who knows, my taxes may go down.

    Joke Thread 5

That was the joke that got the late Kenny Everett fired by the BBC in the Thatcher era.

Folkstone Fixings (FFX) placed into Administration

FTX - isn't that the US crypto outfit run by Sam Bankman-Freud - who is now doing 25 years inside for his efforts?

    Laptop "repair"?!

Thanks - yes - it is actually out of the Linux computer - it went into read-only mode on that.

    Laptop "repair"?!

Thanks both - as it is still under warranty I was quite hoping to get my money back. I am not sure they will refund for a bag of e-waste! My model of SDD is supported - sadly Linux is not. Ho-hum - I will have to see if a Virtual Windows does the trick.

    Laptop "repair"?!

Anyone know how to securely erase an SSD that has gone into read-only mode before I return it. Samsung - not Crucial - and I am doubly hacked off as they reneagued on a rebate offer as well.

I wonder what time of year you sow them?

Workshop Fire Safety - Networked Fire Alarms

My immediate thought - prevention is better than cure - so have a look at all sources of potential fire starting. Don't forget spontaneous combustion risks - like rags in bins. Second - maybe if you can install a sprinkler to give you a head start in extinguishing it. Then a mains smoke alarm...

A recommendation for conspiracists/people who understand things the rest of us don't

And what is most scary is that artificial intelligence is then trained on this garbage and regurgitates it as "fact".

It seems they were contributors to a broader study: https://irregularmigration.eu/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/MIRREM-Kierans-and-Vargas-Silva-2024-Irregular-Migrant-Population-in-Europe-v1.pdf

Except that at least the Oxford’s Compas Migration Centre says that is untrue: The research – published on Monday and compiled by 18 institutions including Oxford University’s Compas centre – estimated the number of illegal migrants in the UK was between 594,000 and 745,000, ahead of Germany...

Axminster Tools Warrington & Newcastle CLOSURES.

Let us hope that they have acted in time, and that the brand as a whole survives. They seem like a genuine and innovative outfit - unlike certain box shifters.

Your comment "As to politicians jumping on a bandwagon, can you name me a politician who hasn't ?" Clearly Sir Keir is not changing his behaviour from that of other politicians (witness also the snout-in-trough issues above). Doing the same as his predecessors is not "change".

    Keir Starmer

So others have done something before, so it is OK for him to do it too. Hardly the "Change" we were promised before the election. As for Police, I agree they can be awful, especially the Met. However in the US where BLM originated they have other mechanisms for self protection not available...

    Keir Starmer

There you go - an earlier example of finding a bandwagon and jumping on it. One of the BLM objectives was defunding the Police - I wonder whether he has forgone his Police protection also in solidarity?

Near catastrophe with control panel failure on Hyundai Kona Car!

When I inherited my father's Toyota Avensis with all the bells and whistles I was faced with the dilemma - whether to sell it or my trusty 20 year old Volvo (on about 420k Kms). I looked at all the electronics to go wrong - and kept the Volvo!

I cannot remember any government becoming so unpopular and sleaze ridden so quickly. Even Boris would be better - and I never in my life thought I would be saying that.
