    Quangsheng No.62 low angle vs No.5 vs No.5 1/2?

I fell into the low angle trap, I bought a quangsheng 62 from workshop heaven thinking it would be a one stop planing shop, in all honesty I really don't like it, the adjustment is not great and impossible to make adjustments mid cut, I don't like the rear tote, there is nowhere to rest my index...

    Harrogate woodworking show

I have been going to the Harrogate show for about 8 years now, this year was noticeably different, the Axminster stand was smaller than last time and the only machinery they had were lathes (useless to me), they also didn't have their range of hand tools which I thought slightly odd. There was...

    Plantation Shutters

I've been pondering the same question for a while now, although US based this is an helpful tool. I planned to use the domino to join mine but mortice and tenons (hand cut or otherwise) will be equally as good if not better, as far as the louvres are concerned I have a router bit that will do...

    Trim / Palm Router Advice

Just to put a balance on the love for the katsu routers, mine is horrid, extremely noisy, loads of vibration and most annoyingly the power cord was stupidly short. I have replaced both armature bearings and the brushes as the nose bearing was on its way out after very little work, doing this...

Oak ledge and brace doors - t&g needed?

Interesting in the book on door and window making published by lost art press (it's a reprint of an old book) it specifically says to clamp all the boards tightly before nailing on the ledges, I assume this is because the nails would give enough to allow for movement, it also says to make sure...

Oak ledge and brace doors - t&g needed?

I do think the thought that without braces a door will sag is a very modern one, a big stable door would probably sag without being braced but a 3' door will be fine. I've seen some very old ledged doors that are fine 100 or so years later. There are a few ways you could go about it, just butt...

Record Power planer blade setting jig

Just as a curve ball I've got a kity 636 and bought a knife setting jig, no matter what I did it just wasn't right, I dread to think how many hours I've lost fiddling with it, I now use a piece of plate glass and a sheet of copier paper, it works a treat, perfectly even knives with no fiddling...

Cen-Tec Systems Extraction Hose and 'Quick-Click' adaptors

I've been using cen-tec hoses and adaptors for about 3 years now, I run 2 vacs in my workshop, 1 for the mitre saw/ router table and another for hand held tools, I've wrapped both hoses in braded cable wrap to prevent snagging but other than that the system is great. The hose connects directly...

Track saw / Plunge saw advice please

I had the erbauer for about 4 years with a mix of Makita and evolution tracks, it was a great saw for the money, I did upgrade it to a festool which is a different beast, the accuracy is on another level but obviously it's 4x the price of the erbauer. Matt

Car Diagnostic scanners - anybody use them?

I absolutely would not fit a part without first establishing if it had what it needed to function, in this case a 5v supply and a ground, which it did not. Anyone who fits a part without checking the basics is just an idiot.

    Garage in winter

I use a diesel night heater designed for camper vans in mine, I run it on red diesel so it's super cheap to run, the power comes from a 12v car battery so no mains power needed. The 8kw version heats my 24'x13' garage from 2° to 16° odd in about 30 mins on full power. I only bought it last...

    Consumer Units For Workshop

Hi, Really it needs an electrician to look at, discuss your needs and they will quote/design for what is appropriate. Depending on the demand there may be need for a bigger supply cable but again an electrician will do the cable calculations. It also depends on where the feed cable comes from...

    Another mystery tool

I agree with Andy, it's a knurling tool. More specifically a rope knurling tool. Google Image Result for https://zkprojectnotebook.files.wordpress.com/2011/08/rope-knurl.jpg Cheers, Matt.

Post a photo of the last thing you made

Today's little project. I use this 1 1/2" Tyzack and sons chisel all the time, it lives in a rack at the back of my bench, only thing is I hated the overly large Marples boxwood handle it had. Time to rehandle it in my absolute favourite pattern of all time, the tapered octagonal, these are so...

    Wood glue

I use gorilla pva its convenient and I can get it locally, I hate the bottles though so I decant it into Ebay sauce bottles, 50p each. I recently used titebond hide glue on a wooden plane repair and like it a lot but it's expensive. I use pu for outdoor stuff or where I need a fast setting time...

    Jet DC1100 NVR

I bypassed the nvr on my itech extractor, it's now controlled with a remote socket. All I did was connect the incoming live to the motor live and the same with the neutrals. All in it took about 5 mins. If you are not confidant coukdnt you get a local spark to do it? Matt

Workshop Heater - Request for information.

We had one of those diesel heaters in a workshop I worked in a few years ago, in short it stank, there was a stickley diesel smell all the time. That and they do make a lot of moisture.
