In need of a hand from a bandsaw!

Mac That looks fairly straightforward. PM me closer to the date if you're still interested. Duncan

Hi Mac Send the pic and we'll see what what we can sort out. Duncan

    Is Northampton close enough? Duncan

Anyone with a CNC router fancy a small job on some acrylic?

Justin Would a milling machine be better? It won't rotate as fast as a router and will be able to perform accurate cuts to depth. Perhaps try a local machine shop? Duncan

Packing up workshop for house move

Hi Mark Go to your local woodworking shop and blag unwanted cardboard boxes off them. They are often glad to get rid of them and the boxes are usually pretty strong since they have carried heavy items all the way from China. You will need more tools than you think to get the house and workshop...

Happy Bunny - thanks to Chris Tribe

Last Monday I picked up a perfectly serviceable free-of-charge workbench from Chris Tribe, no longer needed by him after his workshop re-organisation. He could easily have sold it locally or skipped it but chose instead to offer it foc through the forum, a very kind gesture. I have passed it on...

    Benches free to good home

Hi Chris I am interested in either of the benches - pref the larger one. Can they be broken down on site (by me) to fit in an estate car? A very kind offer, by the way. Thanks Duncan

    Lee Valley Pocket Marking Guage

Hi Andy I purchased one of these in Canada; very handy as you say, and very simple to make. My only improvement would be a little bit of friction (O-ring?) to avoid unwanted movement when tightening down. Much cheaper in Canada! Duncan

Warranty warning for Bosch pro (blue) tool buyers

Siggy-7 Sorry to hear about your problems with the Bosch; it may be worth talking to the retailer as they are the ones responsible for the warranty. Not wishing to hijack the thread but, for the information of others, Makita are now offering a 3 year warranty on some tools, but registration is...

    Richard Arnold Charity Open Day

Many thanks to Richeard for an excellent "bash". There was a great selection of tools to gawp at or to buy, even if not partcularly into old tools like me. As very much a starter, it was nice to meet some of the more well known names from the forum and see some of the wonderful work they turn...

    Source for 1-1/4" x 8tpi nuts

Sorry, going off thread here slightly.. In case anyone is considering a similar project with a M33 x 3.5mm lathe, it is worth noting that a nut of this size should be relatively easy to source as M33 x 3.5 is a standard Metric Coarse thread. In fact, a similar discussion to this one was on the...

    Rawl Plug Blues

Fischer Nylon UX Universal. Never let me down in hard brick, soft brick, hollow brick, breezeblock, plasterboard. Haven't tried them in Aircrete but Toostation say "Premier high quality nylon universal wallplug, suitable for all building materials and pre-positioned installation." I don't...

    Lathe Spanner Sizes

Lots of wildlife, sometimes pretty vicious - there are no veggies down here, except for a few on the ship. Unfortunately, I can't post pictures as our internet is unbelievably slow - and there wouldn't be any wood in them! Duncan

    Lathe Spanner Sizes

Hi Kim Yes, you are missing something - but it's not obvious! I have good metalworking facilities at work - but my work is presently in the South Atlantic, and that is a long way from my workshop in Northampton! More info at: gm0hcq.com/jcr_update. It is not my blog; I prefer to stay out of...

    Lathe Spanner Sizes

Thanks Kim, that's the Sorby sorted. Funnily enough my 3520B has only a 3" faceplate - with flats, grubscrews and an amazing cast spanner that looks like something out of an old Victorian pumping station. If anyone has the 3" faceplate dimensions, I'd be ready to start cutting steel. Duncan

    Lathe Spanner Sizes

I'm trying to cut down the spanner count around the lathe and want to make a multi-purpose spanner for a 3" Jet faceplate as supplied with their bigger lathes, and a Sorby Patriot M33 excert (conventional open ended spanner shapes), plus a Patriot direct thread chuck (a C-spanner to suit the hex...

    Hope Pro Sander

I bought a Hope sander at the Daventry show some time ago and was advised not to use Abranet for the reasons already stated and because the heat could affect the velcro pad unless being very gentle. The stuff that Richard Findlay sells is very good - lasts well and doesn't clog too badly. Duncan

    Workshop floor covering?

Richard The quote was only 2 or 3 years ago but I think it was a "remainders" sale or perhaps recycled as they offered you. Transport didn't come into it as I would have driven over to PAF and collected them. Looks like you've dug up some good alternatives, though. Good luck Duncan

    Workshop floor covering?

Richard A couple of years ago I had a quote from www.pafsystem.com in Wellingborough, Northants for about 22 m2 of their interlocking "tektiles". These are for workshop or industrial use; they are not the soft cheapos sold by Maplin etc. Unfortunately, I can't find the quote but seem to recall...

    Sundstrom SR500 / SR580 respirator

Chris Did you try the SR 540 shield? Still looks distinctly Star Trek but is lighter and less claustraphobic. BTW, I don't think I've seen any face shields rated high velocity in the normal scheme of things although Lynne Amaguchi (a remarkable lady) has looked into it in some detail...
