    Sorry to be leaving

I have, in the past, used tampermonkey user scripts to edit pages on the fly. I tried very briefly to write one for this page - I'm not bothered by the new layout, but, if the site is loosing members because of it, I thought I would give it a go. Sadly my skill is not up to the job...

    Recommended glue for mahogany?

Thank you - so you think I should just crack on with the cascemite? I'm all for not having to buy something else!

    Recommended glue for mahogany?

Ive been using cascamite glue, but i want to do some work with mahogony where i will need to make a laminate, and i think the cascamite will be too light. Is there a standard go-to glue for working with darker coloured woods? Thank you

Burning wood shavings on a log burner?

We used to burn sawdust, but, for the amount of heat you want, you just end up having to shovel it on all the time, and it's kind of not worth the effort. However.... If you have some used cooking oil (I'm talking restaurant quantities, not just from your own kitchen) and moisten the sawdust...

Was i being greedy? - router table advice

With a fulcrum long enough... The moment presented is greater. That said, I spend my life milling non ferrous, and it's normally "an event" that snaps bits, rather than just excessive protrusion.

    Strange sharpening grinder

Im not sure that you can hold the rotation - the holder slides along the chrome bar, so i cant see there would be a way of locking the rotation - assuming im understanding you correctly? Ill look again at the tormeks for reference, but i thought they just slid along a bar also, so possibly i...

Can you critique these prototpe boxes please?

Im not keen on ply as the base will be seen if theyre mounted on a frame, so i want a continuous finish. This is reclaimed timber, and new timber would be easier and cheaper (in man hours) to work with, but then i loose an effect / marketing point with is of value to me. Ie its not a cost...

Can you critique these prototpe boxes please?

Right, After a few pms with people, im understanding this better now. My next question is - If i wanted to make the unit with these sides (as advised above) but use the same material for the base (ie not use ply, veneer, etc) how would i do that with the floating base, and still get it to...

    Strange sharpening grinder

Whilst going through my friends workshop, i found this - (photos will get bigger if you click on them) Its clearly meant for chisels and the like. You set the angle by the protrusion on the scale, and swap between the two wheels. My question - Do dry grinders like this work in any...

    USB Wireless Endoscope

I have a cheap usb one. I think it was about £10 delivered. It's pretty rubbish, but it does see use. I used it last month for checking in some stud wall for cable routing. I've used it for drain work. I've used it to check hard to access car engine fittings. But it is pretty poor. Depth...

    Anyone recognise this lathe?

Thank you for the comments - much appreciated. I will point his wife toward this thread, so then at least there is some idea as to the price. Again, thank you.

    Anyone recognise this lathe?

This isnt a forsale post, but could someone put a sensible figure on the above? Ill open a forsale in the correct way when the time comes, but, as above, really im just trying to get an idea of a fair (rather than ebay) price at present.

    Anyone recognise this lathe?

Apologies - its not like ive not stared at the plate, but i did not actually manage to read the "Myford ML8" on it! ...so now i know what it is, ill look it up. So, nothing to see here.... : )

    Anyone recognise this lathe?

It belonged to a friend of mine who was buried last week. Ill be open in that im trying to work out if its a desirable unit or otherwise, in the interests of his family. Thank you, Julian

does anyone on here have an eBay shop

You need to do considerable volume on ebay to start getting discounts. I reached the level once (i think then they did it over 3 month stretches) but it did not hold out. Then they raised the fees to 10%, rather than their sliding scale, which, for the items i was selling, doubled my costs...

    Sound containment in workshop

ps. a lot can be said for also paying attention to timing. noise during the day is just part of life, so people accept it to the extent that they dont even hear it (or rather their brains dont pay attention to their ears) ...but do the same on a sunny sunday afternoon, when people are...

    Sound containment in workshop

I have my CNC machine in a simple box, with a couple of drop down curtains. One curtain is just thin waterproof stuff, and the other thicker, heavier, more usual sound deadening stuff - think carpet underlay etc. But, the (to me, and possibly to you) interesting point is - The bulk of the...

Circular saw to cut brass tube

...i almost suggested a plumbers pipe cutter before, and then i remembered reading that he said he had a lot to do. Doing a whole bunch of brass tubes with a plumbers cutter will take so very very long.

Circular saw to cut brass tube

I think that is one of the best solutions. Or a full size chop saw with an abrasive disc. Again, id really try and keep away from blades. -ve rake ones are better, but they will still be a whole load more scary than just using an abrasive cutter.

Circular saw to cut brass tube

If you need them all accurate, and quick, i would suggest maybe rough cutting them with a plasma disc on a grinder, and then making up some sort of supporting tube, into which you can drop them, with a steel flange at the top. Drop the slighly oversize tube into the hole, so as the end...
