What should i do with this spare hardwood beam?

This is the most convenient photo for me to post - Its about 4mtrs long, and in good condition. The reason its out is due to other structural failings rather than itself. I know that a chunk of wood like this would cost £250 ish to buy at a reclamation yard, but my situation is that i...

One for all you plumbing and heating people ...........

You can not put an unregulated heat source on a sealed system. You can confirm this with a download of the relevant BC document. You could possibky run a coil through a pressurised tank, but it would need to be capable of transfering the output of your stove at full whack. If BC would sign...

    Heating oil tank

Last time I looked new tanks did not even need to be bunded unless close to a water course, or greater than 2500ltrs. My real point is don't go by what people say. Just download the relevent buildings control doc and read the details for yourself. You may also like to gain clarity on if your...

    Time Wasters

About 90% of my work is custom 1-offs. 95% of that is export. Everyone, rightly, assumes that they need to pay before i start converting stock into unsalable(to anyone else) product. I don't think I've ever had anyone suggest it should happen any other way. It's strange that it's thought of...

Right, ok, if you've gone through three units, they're consumables really, rather than "ware on tools".

    NHS

Given that this type of fraud is far greater than any type of nhs fraud, I'm wondering as to the focus here? I mean they're both fraud, but one dwarfs the other.

    Mates Rates

No, of course they don't. I don't charge them for the tea bags either.... Ughh...think of all that money I'm missing out on! Maybe I should fit a coin op door to the toilet, when I have friends round also? That loo roll doesn't pay for itself, you know. Blimey - they're friends. By...

    Mates Rates

Real friends get work for free. If they're next to me, helping, or even learning, it gets done quickly. If they're nowhere to be seen, the charge is still the same, but the time scale stretches to infinity. I don't make profit from friends, and I do not expect them to profit from me. I find...

    salvaged wood

I purchased mine used via eBay. I think it was about GBP 30 delivered. They're strong tools. So long as the beak hasn't been destroyed, then there is no need to spend 80 quid.

    salvaged wood

Bahco 38. It's not a silver bullet. Rusted in nails on hardwood will snap before they pull, but some denailing jobs are made very simple with one. It depends on how far gone your part is.

Wadkin ags 10 parts - fence and blade 'washer'?

I've been looking for an ags10 for a while, and one is availible close enough, but... It's missing one of the "scaffold pole" type bars that the rip fence locks to, also the fence itself, and, additionally, the 'washer' that the blade nut screws down onto. Is there much chance of finding...

    What digital caliper?

All the talk above of batteries running out is alien to me too. Ive had my small set for the best part of 10 years. Im sure i must have changed the batteries at some point, but it certainly hasnt happened often enough that I even remember doing so!

    What digital caliper?

So far as I'm concerned, there are digital calipers and then there are mitutoyo digital calipers. Go into any precision engineering firm, and look at the measuring equipment, and it will be mitutoyo. The 6" ones are not even crazy money. The 12" ones are. I have both and have never regretted...

Worktop "clamps" for thinner kitchen worktop?

Thank you all for the comments. I wish I had have measured the depth of the "nuts" on the screwfix ones now. I realise they go in horizontally, I just looked at them and thought they looked much too large. I think they were close on 20mm, and, if I put them centrally in a 28mm thickness, that...

Worktop "clamps" for thinner kitchen worktop?

Im installing this in our own kitchen - https://www.wickes.co.uk/Wickes-Solid-W ... m/p/193142 I went over to screwfix and picked up a pack of these but took them back again - https://www.screwfix.com/p/worktop-clam ... pack/15295 ...because they just seemed too deep for the worktop...

Are cheap sash cramps worth it?

I just had a look online, and I suspect they're these ones - The bar is very solid, no bend. They're stable (ie don't fall over on their sides), and mine lived in a damp shed for years and still move fine. They're heavy though, which obviously has disadvantages too.

Are cheap sash cramps worth it?

They were in a shed at my parents place. My olds thought they were mine but I'd never seen them before! Who knows where they came from. If I remember tomorrow I'll take a photo of the three types I have, and you can see for yourself.

Are cheap sash cramps worth it?

Id normally not go near Rolson tools, but i have three brands of sash clamp here, none of which i have paid for, so theyre equal in that respect. And the ones i go for are the Rolson ones? The other two brands are Record, and Silverline. im surprised by the Record one - ive seen other Record...

Bahco quick clamps, instead of irwin?

Just spotted these on toolstation - https://www.toolstation.com/shop/p94783?table=no Theyre only 100mm, but less than £3 each. Everyone always seems to go for the Irwins, which are 150mm, but pretty much double the price - https://www.toolstation.com/shop/Hand+T ... amp/p96815 Anyone...
