    Tool ID

I read a thread on here about an old Marples plane and realised that it had the same markings on one of my woodcarving chisels dating it to between 1862-1875. That inspired me to have a look at my other tools and see if I could find more information about them. I have a mixed set bought as one...

    I saw this on Facebook

I like the stairs but not the floor.

    Strong colour

I love the colour and having plenty of daylight helps.

What have you been up to?

That's about 1.5 per week and looking at the size of them you'll be eating them with every meal!

    Little Old Plane

That's very interesting as it rang a bell related to one of my woodcarving gouges which has a single shamrock. It gives me a warm feeling inside to know that I have a tool that is that old!

    Project 8 - Japanese Toolbox

That looks pretty good. How have you attached the base? I ask because I want to make something similar for a friend who came around to help me with my current project (which I'll post when it's finished in a week or so). His tool box was a beaten up wooden box with some woven cloth straps nailed...

Thanks Mike, another great build thread.

    Woodcarving V tool

Thanks for the replies. So, I think I'll square off the end removing about a third of the profile and then re-profile back from there. I don't think I'll be able to achieve 20 degs without removing the whole profile but I'll try it with the new shallower keel angle and see how it is. If it seems...

    Woodcarving V tool

I don't know if there are any woodcarvers on here but I would like some advice from someone with more experience than me. I bought a used set of woodcarving tools which included a V tool. It has an unusual sharpened profile and I've not been able to find another similar profile anywhere on the...

    Simple smile

Very nice, can you tell me size they are. I can't tell from the pictures.

    Exhibition area...

I'm pretty sure that already exists but it seemed to peter out a little while ago.

A new job in the Alice Holt forest might be of interest to someone here

The job title makes it sound interesting but the job description has no mention of any crafting. It sounds like it would be visitor access maintenance which could be a pleasant way to spend your days. If I didn't live so far away I would be tempted.

Post a photo of the last thing you made

You sound like my wife in that you insist on making a drama out of absolutely anything.

Unknown spinny tool lathe type thingy??

I would hazard a guess that that's a jam chuck.

Post a photo of the last thing you made

That is impressive, nice work. The wood looks like Ash if I'm not mistaken.

Post a photo of the last thing you made

Taste is subjective so what you like and what someone else likes are rarely going to be in line with each other. I could have been more polite and followed the default setting on this site by not saying anything and not clicking 'like' when I don't like something just like everyone else has done...

    Security cameras

I have the Swann system linked in the first post. A couple of years ago I had an issue with some local youths using my garden as a shortcut and I had a word with them. A couple of days later, one of them decided to leave me a message on my CCTV and dropped his trousers and flashed his bits. This...

2020 Secret Santa ......and we're off!

I would participate but in previous Secret Santas I lacked any ability to make anything decent so I abstained (you're welcome) and now I feel more confident I no longer live in the UK.
