    Scroll saw

If you are buying second hand be absolutely sure that the blade clamps are included with the machine as they are expensive to buy separately.

A bit of advice explanation please

I started out with a small lathe then I got a big lathe and now I have the previous incarnation of the 406, I bought it because I knew I would never need to upgrade again. If you can afford it, do it.

Moving workshop/transporting machines - any tips??

I moved house/workshop and country 3 1/2 years ago. My Workshop stuff went in a separate Sprinter type van and we loaded it fairly easily. A van with a tail lift seems a little overkill to me as long as you have some assistance. None of my machines were on wheels then so that wasn't a problem...

    Pallet of hardwood offcuts £330

The listing has a 'make an offer' option which might be worth a cheeky punt.

Anybody have any idea what species of wood this is?

Looks like Lignum Vitae, is the dust yellow?

    Idiot question of the day....

If you can run an extension for tools then you can plug in an oil radiator.

Advice on Ebay, PayPal and collection

When you buy on Ebay, whether through an auction or 'buy it now', you have agreed to buy the item and if the seller was posting the item then you would not have a problem with paying up front.

    Is this an eBay scam?

It's possible to get Paypal to cancel a payment after the fact. They want you to refund to the card and then they'll cancel the Paypal payment and get their money back twice. A similar scam, which I experienced recently on Gumtree, is for the scammer to offer to pay for the item on Paypal then...

    Back problems? "Stand-Sit" workshop stool

Thanks for the right up AES, that stool looks like exactly what I need. I've had a look for it on Amazon.de (I live in Hungary) but I can't find it. Can you tell me any more details to help me find it please.

Please can someone help me purchase a scroll saw please?

I have recently bought a scroll saw and my experience is - Ebay is the best place to look but very few sellers will offer posting The majority advertised are identical apart from the paint colour and brand name. Some makes may have spare part problems Make sure the blade clamps are included, if...

I bought a few lots recently from this Ebayer Items for sale by jan8753 | eBay and they look good to me (I'm no expert).

    Glue for segmented turning

I've watched enough youtube videos on segmented turning to know that that the glue of choice is standard PVA or Titebond. That's what I'll be using when I get around to it.

    Sold Vicmarc VM100 chuck

Do you know if other jaws will fit it? I have an Axminster chuck and I'd like to get another one to save me having to swap the jaws.

How should I revive this table?

I would recommend Thomas Johnson on Youtube for furniture restoration. It's not something I've tried myself but his videos are very watchable and his knowledge on finishing is very good. A lot of the time his final step in reviving the finish, once he has cleaned the grime off the piece, is to...

Stuff for my BA submission in August. AKA Welcome to The Dark Side.

I've just found this thread and I have found it interesting, well written and also fascinating. Thanks Adam. I do a bit of carving and I'd love to have a go at something as intricate as what you've done but the wood preparation I will leave to my trusty machinery.

    Bringing goods from the EU

16000ft is about £40 and even drinking in the cocktail bars in Budapest city centre will give you a little bit of change from that for 4 drinks! Maybe you've over-zeroed, it's easy to do.

    Possible can of worms

I've heard a lot of positive feedback for the Pro edge but I've never used one. When I started I got a Tormek and I'm very happy with the results I get on it.
