Nifty Japanese (?) circ saw guide

Not mine, but I really like this (especially being able to use it as a vertical panel saw) and might add it to the list to have a go at: Good YouTube channel.

Has Oak shot up in price?

It’s because B&Q have bought it all.

    Project 4: First Aid Cabinet

Not to start a debate (I’ve had scraps of bog oak barely large enough to get a couple of dowels from tucked away for years), but imperfections or not, I bet this will be an heirloom piece, especially as it’s so functional.

    Veneered Ply....where and how!?

Will Huws Gray look after it for you or deliver it with a tonne bag of sand & gravel on top? Genuine question, maybe the branch I use are just a bit rough.

    £600 bandsaw

I’d definitely look at a quality used machine, £600 will get you a lot of machine, new not so much.

    SCCM - Makita LS1019 or Bosch GCM350-254

Thanks, I’ll have a look at those. I think I’ve looked at the Hikoki already, but I have to admit to feeling safer with brands I’ve already used when it's most likely I’ll be ordering blind online. I’ve used a Bosch GCM12 GDL (the one without the rails) and loved it, so that’s swaying me a bit...

    SCCM - Makita LS1019 or Bosch GCM350-254

I’d pretty much fixed on the Makita, but then came across the Bosch, which seems to offer a lot more for the money - the variable speed and increased capacity would be really useful. The extraction looks better on the Makita, and it tin closer to the wall - but I’d probably pull it out when...

How much trouble can one bolt be?

Lots of cycles of heating / rapid cooling with a squirt of WD-40 then get it hot and touch a candle to it so the wax is drawn in via capillary action.

    Hardwoods in bathrooms

I made birch ply cabinet carcasses for my sink unit 7 years ago, still haven’t got round to making any doors. Kids splash shower water over it every day, it’s literally connected to the bath. Had several coats of Liberon floor oil and nothing since, still in perfect condition. Worktop is done...

    Dust extractor flow in pipes

That’s an interesting article - thanks! Bedtime reading.

    Dust extractor flow in pipes

Yes, I completely agree that the scenarios you mention are much more likely causes of an explosion, but wood dust is highly explosive so worth every caution...you have to remember I’ve had a week of hairdryer treatment from an ex-HSE inspector / specialist witness on the subject (look up DSEAR...

    Dust extractor flow in pipes

I have some steel ducting that I will be installing to my workshop - what is the easiest way of earthing it? I kind of assume that I need to attach a cable to a metal strap around the duct and run outside to a metal spike driven into the ground? Sent from my SM-G960F using Tapatalk I’ve...

    Dust extractor flow in pipes

Still not sure I can post links, but there is a very good HSE guide to Tyndall illumination - I just found it first hit with a search for * hse 'the dust lamp' *. You could also look in to particle counters, they’re one of those instruments that can be very cheap or very expensive - I have an...

    Dust extractor flow in pipes

I did the BOHS P601 course (to test LEV systems) last year - you learn a bit about design but really that’s P602. There’s so much to it I still have to get the books out as I don’t do it every day (and quite honestly I’m more interested in qualitative than quantitative results; they say more...

    Buying wood during the pandemic?

What are you looking for, hardwoods, panels? The big box stores (B&Q, Wickes etc.) are still doing click and collect.
