    Fence Panel Treatment

I needed some preservative and on investigation I found several alternative types. 1. There is creosote if you can get it, but as has been said - it stinks. 2. There are the Cuprinol type products that are spirit based and available in different shades. Usually quite expensive although I have...

    Sewing machine woes

Surely you could reject the machine as unfit for purpose under the sale of goods act? Your contract is with the seller, not Pfaff, and you should tell them in writing that you reject the goods and request a full refund. You might want to contact a solicitor - they often give 30 mins free advice...

Wainscotting - one for Jacob, perhaps?

I remember my brother telling me about a technique he learnt as an apprentice painter and decorator (early 60's - when there were apprenticeships). It was called scumbling, and the craftsman would apply a coating of shellac mixed with meths to the wood, then create a wood grain effect by...

    compressor

I bought a Wolf Dakota from UKHS, 3HP belt drive and 100 litre tub for £199. I think they are nearer £300 now but I was quite pleased with mine. A couple of points - 1. Wolf is no longer the quality brand it once was. It is now a far east import but seems OK. 2. The advertising blurb...

What on earth am I doing/is wrong?

Obvious point, and probably not the cause, but are the chuck jaws correctly fitted? It is easy to get one not gripping when replacing them in the chuck body, then it will be out of alignment when you tighten up. Worth checkimg? K

Basic Axminster saw £80 - any opinions?

Hi scrollers, I was bought the Axminster WWFS16 about 4 years ago, and I have to say I just cannot get on with it. I have been told the saw is an adequate model and any problems are likely to be as a result of blade type or tension. HowevercI just find I cannot accurately follow a line, even in...

    Tool sharpening scam warning

My usual response to any door-to-door person is a polite 'no thank you', what ever if is. I have bought door-to-door stuff in the past and have always regretted it. Examples of things I did not buy: A fire extinguisher, well known brand, nothing wrong with it and could save my life according to...

    Shotgun Box WIP

Very nice work. My only comment is check whether it would be approved storage with your local police. Ours require a steel cabinet, 2 locks which must not be 'get at-able' ( there's a word for this, can't think of it now) from the outside, and it must be bolted to a solid wall. You could perhaps...

    Is anyone else a collectomaniac?

Yeah, big shed = more stuff collected. Then I can't find what I want because it's hidden by piles of other stuff - I know it's there though, oh yes, it's there. K

My mate has no problems with workshop stools since he installed a flush WC in an enclosed corner of the workshop. I have to go into the house, but then it's usua!ly only once a day so no big deal. K
