    Wood identification

Sort of woodwork related for this section (mods feel free to move to general off topic if not appropriate) I bought this today as a Georgian Oak cutlery tray - circa 1810, but it feels a little light for oak. I can normally tell oak but I'm not sure this isn't pine. Any help, chaps?

Should L&B doors be made using T&G

Thanks for the advice - I went out to the timber yard this morning to order the wood. However, I'm looking after our 7 month old daughter this morning as it's my wife's first day back after maternity leave. I called in at teh supermarket, then into a big toy shop to get her some pressies -...

Should L&B doors be made using T&G

I've made a couple of oak L&B doors before, but I need to make a pine one - nothing fancy as it's being painted white. Were they always traditionally made using T&G boards? I did last time, but I'm wondering if it's necessary.

    Filling/fixing render cracks advice

The cracks are too big, mainly hairline but a couple a bit wider than others. I've tried covering with masonry paint but a couple reappeared after a few weeks - being a fens property I suppose I have to expect some movement.

Is is worth getting a Dewalt palm sander repaired

My Dewalt palm sander has gone - it's about four years old and started playing up, first of all cutting out, then starting and stopping straight away. Now it won't start at all. Is it ever economically viable to get power tools like this fixed, or is is just as cheap o buy a new one?

    Filling/fixing render cracks advice

As part of our great escape back to Somerset (hopefully), I need to get teh house ready to put on the market. It's an old cottage and there are a few thin render cracks. What's the best way to fill them as I'm going to paint the house when I've finished. Anyone had similar issues and...

    Sandpaper Storage

Yes, I like that idea. Might build one after the new workshop reopening (I'm having to put the shop into mothballs for a while). Building up to going out to the 'shop in a minute, but tea and toast first I think.

    Recommendation for petrol garden shredder

It starts to be uneconomical to hire as I'd need it for a few weeks - each stage of garden needs doing - spread over about 1 1/2 acres and each has trees/hedges etc so doing trimming/pruning on and off over a few weeks.
