    Titebond Veneer Glue

I soaked each sheet, then as you suggest placed a sheet of blank newspaper between each sheet. Then weighted down with 40kg of weight. I'll give it a couple of hours, then replace the sheets of paper. I guess I'll then leave it overnight. You suggest a couple of days? I can do that as well. :) I...

    Titebond Veneer Glue

So, I've started the flattening of the veneers with some veneer softener. I have had a modicum of success. (hammer) But, just how flat do have to get them? If there are shallow ripples left, will they glue down when I press it? Or shall I soak it again and continue pressing until completely...

    Photo hosting

It's not like my Dad's box of lifetime photos anymore. That box will happily sit in my cupboard. What size of box would be needed today to store all the digital photos we take if we printed them all? A pal of mine went out wildlife photoshooting (is that a word?) and took nearly 2000 shots...

    What Wood Rots The Least?

I like the sound of this Mike, especially the technique of fitting the net. I've tried staples in the past but have never got the finished item to look neat, the net always crumples. I have put "garden water mill" into the search box but cannot see anything relevant. I am assuming I use the...

    What Wood Rots The Least?

Thanks for all the replies. Andy, the pipe is a good idea, the only problem being when I try to fix and tauten the net, it distorts the pipe. I thought of putting a brace piece in the middle of the 3m length but I want the whole setup to be as "invisible" as possible. Thanks for the idea though :)

    What Wood Rots The Least?

I have got to make a frame over which I need to stretch some garden net to protect a pond. It's simple enough, 2 frames 3m x 1m and I should think 50mm x 25mm for the timber.. So it's something that I can easily make and replace from time to time, but what is the best wood to use that will be...

    Titebond Veneer Glue

Thanks Custard, but I have already got the veneers. Oops! Not exactly pedestrian, but I am going to start with just two at a time and see where it goes from there

Advice needed on how to make this knot look good please

I agree with Pete, just leave it like it is. But then that is just personal preference. I have a friend who decided to have a solid oak T&G floor laid, but was adamant with the fitter that the oak should be knot free. It was installed, knot free to an exceptional standard. Was she pleased? No...

    Not woodworking but..........

That would be 30:33 minutes of my life wasted if I watched! What on earth were you searching for when you found this? Please don't tell me "sock making".

    Titebond Veneer Glue

Thanks Custard, if it's good enough for you :D You answered a couple of questions on this for me last November, unfortunately I was a bit optimistic as to when I would start on it, but here we go! I've just set up the vac press I bought and am now just waiting for some veneer softener to...

    Wood price

OK, I am learning something here if people think that is too much to pay. I use an online site which isn't the cheapest. I have just put in 50mm x 100mm, 3000mm long PAR red cedar and that's coming out at £154.85 per length. And OM99 wants 4 of them! Douglas Fir is £87.44 per 3mtr length...

    DeWalt DEW733

Well I think if you like the idea of the thicknesser for other jobs you should get one :D The largest pieces of green oak I’ve put through mine were 2.5 metres, 150mm by 70mm for some garage doors that I made. The issue I had with the weight was that the thicknesser wasn’t powerful enough...

    Butler Bell Box

Thanks Pete. I tried Googling all sorts but came up with nothing other than "for sale". Out of interest, what words did you Google with?

That's very kind Steve, thank you. However, I thought I would give it a go when you pointed out that the star was just 2 triangles! Here we go :

    Butler Bell Box

OK, try again, the first time it crashed #-o Not that I have a millions other things to do but I have this butler bell box that I would like to get working again. My electronics abilities are negligible. So a couple of questions. Does anyone know if spare parts are available for this...
