http://www.woodcraft.com/family.aspx?FamilyID=226 I bought some 8 x 3 stones from here, they arrived in a couple of days by fed ex door to door and I paid Vat a few days later and no stupid Post Office surcharge for collecting it. I think when you place the order they send you the carriage...

    Festool guide rails

Fair enough... but I bet you're in the minority of festool owners :-) as well as being in Holland:-) but more seriously when I say faffing I mean putting in the miniscule amount of effort (which you quite correctly point out is no effort) most owners don't do and still mange to use the tool...

    Home from hols...

Sadly I have to say my recently late father who was a CID policeman (reluctanty by fate..plumber really) always said that women who had their jewellery pinched who could have locked it away were always upset (and you are in plentiful company including my mum), and it wasn't worth owning anything...

    Festool guide rails

Hmmm I think you have indeed answered your own post, I see no great problem with the approach shown, it pretty much fits with the previous answers. I can't see a chippie/joiner in the real world faffing like this but...who knows? to be honest as soon as the already slippery material shows sign...

    Festool guide rails

If you lubricate with something it will acquire dirt make a nice grinding paste and wear the tracks quicker than anything. I would just rely on a good clean if dirt starts to build up causing sticking, same as curtain tracks, amazing how much better they work after a good clean. Alan

    i'm not a collector but

I don't throw them away, although I don't consider myself a collector and all the planes were purchased with the intention of being used and are used. The boxes sit shoved on top of some cabinets in the workshop but when I get round to it they will be launched into the loft space on top of the...

    table saw purchase

Hey DW I take it you are looking for another challenge :-) I hope this one goes better for you than the previous ones. I bought the excalibur but it was question of timing, the axminster version is one I certianly would have looked at. Tony is very pleased with his and sold the sliding table...

    electrticians view sought

I had a food mixer that the wife got free from a clubbook sitting on the kitchen worktop suddenly start up whilst we were in the kitchen. When I stripped it down the grease used to lubricate the wiper on the switch had carbonised and created it's own track for the electricity to flow. So things...

    Planes - New v Old?

Whilst admitting that I don't have the weight of age or years of experience... my limited findings are the same as Tony's to some extent. having started with dodgy Stanleys and then fettled them ...then put a decent blade in a fettled Record 4 1/2 and found the point at which I thought I was...

    Back Flattening

I have been following this thread with interest and a couple of questions have cropped up. I used to be able to buy individual pots of grit from Axminster but can only find the lapping plate set with several grits. Am I confused (more than normal that is :-)) is there another source for this...

    Morticer problems

I do not differ to the advice above. I can only speak from my experience which was exctly the same as yours (after setting as above etc) . The way I acheived success after the burning binding scenario was to take a very small bite at my first plunge...only a mil or two and then immediately move...

    Matsumura Blue Steel Chisels

The handles are "Ray isles" and he sells a set of chisels which are his own using Ashley Isles blades but with these handles. It would seem they are a complicated family in terms of marketing. Alan

94 now. I must admit I was really sceptical when I had a look, and I have to admit that when I did, I really did like it and decided it would be churlish not to vote :-) Alan
