    A house-full of furniture

Wow i've finally got in first ! Better type this quick. Hi Dandan, you have not said what your skill level is but i would suggest start with the easiest and smallest first, then if things don't go right you have not spent and wasted to much on materials. Coffe table and bookcase would be the...

Advice for crosscutting dowels on tablesaw.

Have you a jigsaw, clamp a load of the uncut dowels between 2 bits of wood clamp this to the bench with a slight overhang cut along with jigsaw, unclamp move the uncut dowel along reclamp and repeat. I have never done it this way as i would always cut dowels on the bandsaw, so don't know if it...

rot proof wood for fencing - tanalised/ pressure treated etc

Hi Matt as above but use a brush on Tanalith called End Seal on all cuts. Although the Tanalising does not go all the way through the timber and in my experience just a few millimetres its all we have to use. If you can get as much timber away from the ground the longer it will last.

    jointing bowed timber

I've used both methods, and would favour Jacobs way. Feed the board over the cutters as usual, it will miss the front, cut in the middle then miss the back, once done a couple of times you will soon have a flat section in the middle, which will get longer the more passes you make.

Sometimes you luck out. I found a toolbox by chance.

Before it was the Toolbox the unit was a Fudge maker and during the summer when we both had our doors open the smell coming from that unit when they had big cauldrons of molten fudge bubbling away was just devine. After they went Gerry Dawson (the chap you met Bm) opened up the Toolbox. When i...

Sometimes you luck out. I found a toolbox by chance.

Hi Bm, You where down my neck of the woods. I used to run a picture framing workshop in the centre unit, the one you went into from the shop counter. Selling your work

Had the same problem myself as I'm not VAT registered. I have had various outlets ask if they could sell my items but they would be looking at 20% plus 20% vAT so i could not lower my prices by the 40% required. If anyone knows how then share it with us.

Spring water - domestic treatment plants

Ours is a spring fed supply, can't be bothered with all that UV and filtering. Just don't drink it, we buy bottled water from the supermarkets at 12p per bottle. Told the kids when brushing their teeth not to swallow any as we call it ditch water. Never been ill from it in 26 years. When it...

    Great "wrong" words

Back when i was an apprentice draftsman in an electronics factory i was doing some text to an assembly drawing when i used the word LOWERMOST as opposite to uppermost. I was called up in front of my superior when i refused to change it. My daughter would call a robin a robin rest breast.
