    Column shapes

I would suggest that particular Google search backs up my assertion it is easier to find books along the lines of 1001 woodworking novelties than practical usage of elegance and design. I do like the look of the one about pairing pasta shapes with the correct sauce though.

    Column shapes

That is the 11% positive seller I think! Maybe I should risk it as it is the book I was thinking of and i am curious about what someone can do to manage such an incredibly bad eBay rating...

    Column shapes

Thanks - that is the one I was thinking of. Couldn't remember the name. Now just to find a copy - not sure I fancy taking a risk with an eBay seller with an 11% positive rating!

    Column shapes

Maybe columns is the wrong term - I was thinking along the line of the curves you get for balustrades or the central pillar for a card table. Flutes would be fun - I have often considered a router jig for use with the lathe, but not for this project. I have often thought it strange how hard...

    Column shapes

I am looking to make a plinth / column to put a sundial on and was wondering where I could find a library of different column shapes. I think I saw a book on this years ago, but cannot remember the details. I am sure I could freestyle something, but as a society we have been designing decorative...

Paint for painting wooden kitchen unit fronts.

I am always a bit suspicious about all in 1 paints - a specialised primer and topcoat feels like it should be more effective, but I am sure a painting expert will be along shortly to give better advice. When we did ours, we sugar soaped, sanded and primed everything zinsser. Then Tikurilla...

    Second fix nail guns

I bought a Paslode framing nail gun a while ago and it has been brilliant. I now thinking about getting a finishing nailer. What are the differences between a Paslode im250 and an im65? Obviously the im65 is considerably more expensive! Thinking of getting the straight magazine version as it...

    Which Airless Sprayer?

Definitely wasn't an inside job! Sure HVLP would have been better, but given the choice between airless and brush / roller for a lot of doors and drawer fronts, the sprayer was definitely an improvement.

    Which Airless Sprayer?

I was painting OSB, so a roller really would have been soul destroying! Had previously borrowed the same model from a neighbour to paint kitchen cabinet doors. I am sure it was the wrong tool for the job, but with a narrow tip it could do quite fine tasks too.

    Which Airless Sprayer?

I bought an Erbauer airless sprayer from Screwfix to paint the workshop I have just built and thought it great. https://www.screwfix.com/p/erbauer-eaps600-electric-paint-sprayer-600w/394kr?ref=SFAppShare No experience of expensive versions to compare it to, but it takes standard tips, so I was...

Replacement headstock position lock for Axminster Perform CCL

As @ChaiLatte said there are loads. The step shape in the bed is a dead giveaway once you start looking!

Replacement headstock position lock for Axminster Perform CCL

A slightly drastic option is to get a scrap one and take the bits off it. They can turn up very cheap, especially if rusty or not working! I think someone on here gave one away a while ago. I don't know where in the country you are, but a very quick look up suggests 2 for less than £80. Eg...

Replacement headstock position lock for Axminster Perform CCL

So what the diagram doesn't show is that the rod going through has an offset central section. That was when you rotate the handle it locks in 1 position, but releases 180 degrees away. (Sorry if that is stating the obvious!). Forgot, you will also need parts M43 and 44. You might want to find...

Replacement headstock position lock for Axminster Perform CCL

That is frustrating - it is a great lathe. I used to have an m900 which is I think identical apart from the badge and paint colour. Have you got a copy of the manual? If not, this should help: https://www.axminstertools.com/media/downloads/aptcm900_manual.pdf I think it is parts M18, M22 and...

    Makita Orbital sanders

I wondered if I was being suckered by a bit of a gimmick with the 2 orbits when I bought it, but it makes such a difference. 2 tools in 1!

    Makita Orbital sanders

I got a Metabo SXE-450 recently and it is amazing compared to the little cheap one I had before. Dust extraction is good and it had 2 different orbit sizes which is really handy.

70-80 years old and still doing fine!

    Vacuum Pump recommendations

If you have a look on eBay etc, various old ones turn up quite cheaply. Mine is ancient but does the job. You don't need a very strong vacuum for a chuck, so the air compressor version may be sufficient. If you want to use it for resin at any point, the deeper vacuum a pump produces would be useful.

Stopping epoxy leaks with glazing putty?

From my experience since that, no sort of tape seems to work except on a really smooth and clean surface. Hot glue to stick small covering plates is ok, but I find bathroom silicone to be the best as it is easy to get leaks with a long run of hot glue. Stick a piece of of scrap over all the...

    Polishing acrylic pu varnish?

I have tried polishing PU with car polishing compound. It worked ok, and ended up with a very glossy finish. It needed a lot of coats to get a thick enough layer to polish without risking going through at the edges. Overall though, I think if that is the sort of finish you want, a top coat...
