    Wanted Axminster ts-250 sliding carriage

Hello does anybody have a sliding mitre carriage that would fit an Axminster ts-250 table saw that they wouldn't mind selling please? Thanks, Alex

    Table saw advice please

I think that will have to be the answer. I thought I had done my research with this purchase, but this is a surprisingly irritating downside to it. Good to hear that yours works. I had a look at some today, but they were a bit expensive to buy to immediately cut up!

    Table saw advice please

So it turns out that the downside with this saw is that the mitre guides are an odd size. Is there anywhere that sells guides for 15mm wide tracks? I went and asked in Yandles today and they were really helpful, but couldn't suggest anything that would fit.

    Table saw advice please

I don't think I will ever be able to cut big pieces of sheet material inside my shed. That has to be done outside with a circular saw and a guide. I was hoping to do smaller more precise bits with the table saw. I possibly got a bit over excited when I saw one come up cheaply. I know that...

    Table saw advice please

Currently I don't even have a protractor fence with it, so I am going to have to get something. I have a cheap mitre saw so I have an option for cutting angles. As to what I hope to make, the first project will be loads of drawers for the shed. After that, various bits of furniture for the...

    Table saw advice please

I have recently bought an Axminster ts-250 as my first table saw. It didn't come with the sliding mitre carriage though. Firstly, how useful is having one? Is it worth trying to source one, or should I just make a DIY sled for crosscutting? If they are great, how universal are they? I guess...

    Charnwood W815, Axminster AW205WL or AC355WL?

Good work! Most important thing is to have fun! You will be amazed how many round cross section things you need in your life...

    Workbench drawers

Interesting to hear more, smaller drawers is a good idea. I want to store power tools in the big bottom ones, but more smaller ones above sounds good. Some of the pictures of benches you see on youtube and the like with millions of drawers look a fiddly and impractical and I wanted to keep...

    Workbench drawers

I see what you mean about stuff getting trapped - a top to prevent that sounds an excellent idea. How much space under the top would you suggest? I had thought having the top resting on the rails would make things sturdier. Do you mean the top entirely floating, supported only by the 4 legs...

    Parrotia Persica

Sounds an interesting timber, apparently "excellent for tool handles, telegraph poles, bridge construction and for burning or charcoal production" so you are onto a winner either making something or burning it. Looks as if it very dense (870kg / m3) and with a very fine structure so may take...

    Workbench drawers

I like the idea of being able to access drawers from both ends, but I don't have enough space in the shed for the bench not to be against the wall. I see quite a few people are just using drawers sliding on the frame as opposed to anything fancy. Are runners overly complicating things?

    Workbench drawers

I am getting round to making a more suitable workbench than the old (but massive) sideboard I have currently. I have some sweet chestnut that I am going to make the frame out of and have the chance to nab some old fire doors that I was going to use to make the top. What would people suggest as...

    Charnwood W815, Axminster AW205WL or AC355WL?

If you have a use for the little lathe once you wish to upgrade then that might make a difference. You could get started with a new small lathe and think about taking a bit more of a risk with something bigger and second hand when you have more practice. Maybe I am just childish, but I find the...

    Charnwood W815, Axminster AW205WL or AC355WL?

Hello and welcome. If you want true electronic variable speed, you will be limited to fairly new models so second hand isn't much of an option, so at that price range the ones you have look pretty good. The first 2 will only allow 8" diameter items. If you really only want to make spindle items...

    Finishing end grain table

17 isn't bad for air drying, but as other have said it will be dryer if inside in a heated room. If it is an even 17% all the way through you will have got past much (but not quite all) of the potential times for cracking. What has been your special method?

    Hardening up spalted beech?

If you want epoxy to soak in further, you can try thinning it a bit with acetone. Big no no for casting, but works great for use as a hardener.

    Finishing end grain table

Nice looking slice! Pretty much any finish will darken the wood as it will make it look permanently wet. ON the plus side, this should really bring out the grain. As with all of these questions, it depends on what look you are going for. Osmo or tung oil would give a fairly flat, low sheen...

    Window film for extra insulation

The ventilation aspect always seems very frustrating. Surely there must be a better way of managing things than just venting warm air outside? I feel it ought to be more efficient circulating air within the house and using a dehumidifier. I am sure replacing the windows would be a better...

    Window film for extra insulation

Thanks for that. Sounds as if it might be worth an experiment, but not to get hopes up too much? Seems worth giving any passive option that might work a go before increasing the heating in that room, or putting a window on trickle and letting all the warmth out!

    Window film for extra insulation

Now the cold weather is approaching, does anybody have any experience of using window film to improve insulation. We have (pretty old) double glazing and the north facing side of the house is always cold and gets terrible condensation. Would one of those add on window films help reduce...
