    becoming a cabinet maker

mailee sums it up quite nicely. I make cabinets for a living, using as many machines as I can afford to speed things up. the idea of making things with hand tools is wonderful but unfortunately unrealistic unless you have a reputation, even then you are a bit of a novelty. I was talking to a rep...

if you can find a good photographer, use them to take the photos, it makes all the difference. we use a photographer, in exchange for work etc. she takes photos that we couldn't take even if we had the right equipment, and I'm into my photography. dress the kitchen with them. my web page is...

a while ago I told you about my bts500 that I bought from the bay, which was dropped just before I picked it up. today I had a guy come over who will be able to weld the broken cast for me. so I've started taking it apart, although i'd love to do a full strip down, I just need to get it working...

    Hinges.

Use blum hinges. you can download technical sheets for fitting, and they are plenty strong enough if you use the correct number. they have a page that will give you a number of hinges per kg ratio. we hang 3 metre doors on them, and if you go for blumotion, they have built in soft close, your...

The right way to use a sliding mitre saw ?

    1) You would hope that the bosch representative would know what they are talking about. 2) The blade direction would say that you should be cutting away from you so it's not dragged 3) On my SMS I've always brought the saw out plunged and pushed back with fine results 4) On a RAS I've always...

Crazy guy!! Lathe and router combo health & safety nightmare

That is one of the scariest things I've seen in a long time. my arse would be twitching like a rabbits nose for the entire time i'd be using it. but I like his floating router system. not sure whether he or the crazy Canadian is crazier https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P4qB6n1cm04 at least the...

We did a bar in Chigwell in high gloss piano black it was made from mdf, we did a huge amount of finishing, as much as you could see whilst the mdf was still raw, but I believe the painter did a huge amount of finishing work too, once he got a couple of coats of paint on. he did an...

    Bad Backs

there seem to be a lot of bad backs out there, I put mine out a few years ago lifting something ridiculously heavy in a stupid way. I was a mess for days, wincing whilst lifting the kettle etc, until my friend told me about an osteopath he used. I went to see him as soon as he could fit me in...

    Advice needed on first design

Couple of thoughts. How about: Lift top and some side off, so that you're not reaching into the table, wasn't sure whether sides would be useful. or Hinged half tops, give you somewhere to put beer, peanuts, ashtray etc.

Vintage J. Sutcliffe Circular Saw bench on ebay

I agree that if I was bidding on an item I wouldn't be happy if it had been shown on the forum, but in this case, when the 3/4 ton of rust has a starting price of £500 I don't think there will be too much interest.

    Advice needed on first design

the top looks like it has no overhang, if that is the case you could split the top in half and hinge it to come down onto the sides
