Quick drying, durable and low odor worktop sealer?

We have maple worktops and the last time I resealed them I used a Sadolin water based laquer. Now I know that this is most likely not food safe, but as we always use chopping boards for food prep nothing really came into contact. I have subsequently had to scrape the finish off as it became...

Any clock makers on here who can advise on clock mechanisms?

Have sold 2 so far, so am running it as a side line. The realisation hit early new year that it was not an economically viable income generator and I ended up back in IT, but as a contractor. So it's self employed. It's very satisfying to sell a clock and have the end user tell you how happy...

Thanks and yes, but I think they look rather cheap.

Any clock makers on here who can advise on clock mechanisms?

I have recently started manufacturing clocks and whilst the clocks look very nice, I am frustrated at the lack of quality mechanisms and nice contemporary hand options on the market. I have been using mechanisms from an ebay seller. Sweeping mechanisms with nice bright red baton style hands...

Applying water based lacquer. Roller, brush or foam pad?

Many thanks Matt. I have some Floetrol, but could do with getting a decent brush. I'll pick one up and give your method a try.

Applying water based lacquer. Roller, brush or foam pad?

Do you see brush strokes or does it flatten out nicely?

Applying water based lacquer. Roller, brush or foam pad?

I usually spray my water based finishes, but it's time consuming setting up the sprayer, extractor just to spray a couple of very small clock faces. I have tried using a foam roller, but that just leaves loads of bubbles on the surface and I wonder if anyone has a way of achieving a great...

anyone run their own design and manuf furniture co.

For what it's worth, I think the only way of being able to make a living is to potentially offer fitted furniture. Built in cupboards under the stairs or alcoves ... I have a friend who makes very contemporary furniture which he then sells each year at Dorset Arts Week. One thing he makes is...

    Cleaning an iron.

Funny post. My Wife was asking me the same thing last week. I do keep telling her that printed t shirts should be ironed inside out.

anyone run their own design and manuf furniture co.

Not wanting to put a dampener on proceedings, but I have gotten the impression that to make a fortune out of anything furniture related is nigh on impossible unless you have a large workforce and serious automation. A quick search on Made.com makes for depressing viewing, unless you have an...

Knock Down Fixings and Jigs. Recommendations please.

Investigating knock down fixings for some cabinet work I need to do with 18mm veneered mdf and would welcome any advice as to what people are using and which systems are easy to get started with, without expensive tooling and jigs. So far I have seen the minifix system, but the jig for the that...

Why is cyclone extractor choice so limited here in England?

Thanks. Being down in the depths of Dorset Newark is quite a drive. I was hoping you might be attending the Yandles show in April, but it doesn't look like JET are attending?

    vacuum bagging forms

In the past I have had great success from a pink insulation foam from B&Q. Denser that celotex and can be easily cut and sanded. If you do make a frame and clad it, make sure the frame is really strong, otherwise, you'll just destroy it when you turn on the vac pump. I have experienced this...

Why is cyclone extractor choice so limited here in England?

Hi Nick, That's great news! Maybe the Brimarc representative I spoke with was unaware of this. I will keep an eye out. ps - will you be offering a discount to ukworkshop forum members ;-)

Why is cyclone extractor choice so limited here in England?

I gave Axminster a call to inquire about the JET cyclone system, but was told they will not be stocking it. They told me CE regulations was the most probable reason for not doing so. I did a search and found the far eastern company that produce the exact same unit for Axminster.

Why is cyclone extractor choice so limited here in England?

That company just sells the plastic cyclones to make your own. I called them yesterday regarding an Oneida cyclone extractor, but was told they could get me one, but it would be shipped over from the US just for me. Made me think that I'd be better off buying one direct from the US and...

Why is cyclone extractor choice so limited here in England?

Ok, I understand the possible market economics issue, but will a home made unit provide the same level of dust filtration you get with a commercial one?
