    Floor inlay advice

I agree about the glass but assumed that you would be able to repolish resin once it inevitably gets scratched up over time. The glass would need to be about 20mm thick and was not sure how much distortion you would get through glass at this thickness.

    Floor inlay advice

Here's one for you :D I have just laid a floor in my house (timber floor) and have left a small section open to a rendered sub base which has the kids hand prints and names in it (not everyone's choice I grant thee, but a personal thing). So now I need to cover it with something which protects...

    Drawer runner confusion

Hi all, I need to make some drawers for my new kitchen and need some advice on runners. I have bought some blum 450mm under mounted blumotion runners. Having looked at the website I am struggling to understand the required depth of the drawers or whether it is even relevant. It looks as though...

    finish for an oak floor

Hi all, Have just laid a solid oak floor and wanted peoples views on the best type of finish. Was going to use tung oil but not sure this is going to be the best option. For one I can't exactly walk over the floor wiping off any excess. Also I was wanting something with a lighter looking...

    Furniture design/make university courses?

Aled Both Nottingham Trent Uni and Kingston Uni do BA (hons) in Product and Furniture design. There are also some good courses at University of Central Lancashire but not sure what level they are aimed at. A friend of mine undertook a furniture design course which was very good at UCE but dont...

    Planer waste

We have started keeping chickens so use sme of it on that (which gets added with manure evetnually and then goes on the compost heap) and some other people in the village with pets etc. I have a hot spot woodburner in the workshop but always a bit nervous putting them in there as concern bout...

    MDF Joints

Just as an alternative, I always run grooves if I am making kitchen or large cabinets. This may be a bit of an overkill but just like the strength you get doing it this way. kev

    Rutlands - Tornado Router Bits

Have used individual tornado cutters and find them to work well. The other bonus is that the glossy finish does seem to make then easier to clean and keep clean IMHO. On a similar theme has anyone used the Tornado tounge and groove set. Thinking of buying. Kev

Problems with a table saw blade

Evening all, I have a got a problem with one of my new-ish table saw blades and wondered if anyone could help. I bought a new rip blade from OBAS (or is it OMAS), and getting some wobble in it when ripping timber. Basically every 6-12" or so it will vibrate and cause a width gouge in the...

    draw dimensioms for blum runners

Tom, Have heard a few people recommend the grass runners. Where do you buy them from, couldn't see anywhere on the Grass site that you could actually buy them. Not the most user friendly site as had already been mentioned. Are they comparable with Blum cost wise? Kev

    Wood Selection

I would go for walnut as well, mainly because I think the contrast will go well with the cherry. I have made boxes out of cherry before using a wax finish which worked well but dont underestimate how much the colour of the cherry will change over the years. This will work well ith walnut for...

    draw dimensioms for blum runners

As all have said, the blum website has some clear drawings of tollerances etc for the different types of drawer runners available. Cost depedning, they do sell jigs for drawers and doors but these are jaw droppingly expensive for what they are IMHO. Kreg also sell drawer allignment brackets to...

    How would you do this

Eric - will do the curves out of solid oak, should hopefully get away with two peices for each curve. The beading is still up for debate :? . Probably right JS - just on this how do you then stick it to the glass? Do you use silicone or the like and how visible is it? Cheers for the thought...

    How would you do this

I agree that the glass is going to need a few sharp intakes of breath when it comes to cost. I guess I could stick the curves on to both sides to make it look like a solid rail but was just a bit worreid that it would be to noticlable. I could also use safety film as is suggested but again...

    How would you do this

What I should have said is this will be in oak which is not a problem in terms of making the door ( some useful pointers all round by the way - thanks) but how would people go about making the beading for the curved members. The beading will just be square egded and only 10mm think but doubt oak...

    How would you do this

Thanks Dibs, Like the idea of the morticers into the hinge rail, would probably have stub tenons rather than go all the way through but would still add strength to the overall door it seems. You are probably right about using dowels, will give more lateral strength to the curve. Should be...

    How would you do this

I am planning to make some doors to the entrance to my new kitchen and wanted some advice on joints or how you would go about is basically. The doors (internal) will be double doors that open both ways. Have not thought how to do this yet but probably some sort of pivot hinge, anyway I digress...
