Identifing a type of rule by J Rabone and Sons

The main scale seems to be in 10ths so maybe it was for a particular trade, the edges look to be in quarters which is handy because 10 doesn't divide by 4🤔.

Cable entry in cupboard door - help please

Why does the door need to be closed when the kit is out? If it's just to stop it sticking out and being in the way maybe leavie it intact and fit detachable lift off hinges.

Cable entry in cupboard door - help please

Why does the door need to be closed when the equipment is out? If it's simply to avoid it sticking out and being in the way, you could fit lift off hinges or similar and leave the door intact

Adding the word "yet" perhaps? Doesn't look urnish to me.

Sharks. How do they get away with it?

We have an oldish Dyson, V7?, and I got a compatible battery after about 5 years. All fine. Run time not an issue because it's so easy to use you change your habits Old world, get the wired upright out, wrestle the cables, do the whole house or at least one floor if it because the getting it...

Bandsaw shoot out ..Axminster hbs250 or record bs250

Light, I use a cheap Tesco magnetic base torch stuck on the door and very easy to point where you want, spot and flood and I think £10. Same torch sticks on the lathe bed if I need to peer into deep hollowed stuff batteries last month's. RP was almost all made outside the UK. They are...

    Estate agents for workplaces.

Pretend to yourself that you are buying that which you are selling, search online for houses with workshops or houses with outbuildings, see what pops up, see who the agents are. If the same names keep appearing you have your answer. It's a long time since we moved, before internet was a big...

    Bottle stopper bolt

A completely different approach if you can't get what you want. Turn the whole thing, put 3 shallow grooves on the tapered part, buy a box or pack of O seals and roll them into the grooves. If you get the taper and the spacings right it will fit most wine bottles.

    Steamy bathroom

No, it was for the op. I too lack a window in my en suite but the extractor fan works fine.

    Steamy bathroom

Isn't it a very simple no expense thing to test? "Try having the window closed and tell me if it's better or worse".

    Chuck holding Steb Center

If you are starting out and worried about catches you can reduce the drive belt tension, belt slips if you get a bad catch and you don't need to spend £££ on a "special thing"..

    Stone forum

If you run a forum you need a server, owned or space rented, some connectivity, rudimentary security, a bit of tech know how, etc which cost money. You can set up a Facebook group in moments.

    Stone forum

A few forums (fora?) and newsgroups I belonged to years ago no longer exist and have been replaced by social media groups, like ones on Facebook. Much as I dislike all that stuff its sometimes useful so maybe have a search there. I'm told there are things called instgram and tic tok (a brand...

    2x4s for outdoor furniture?

Yes, I've used it successfully. Some things lasted 20 years plus. All the above about designing it to drain is good advice, on one table I put 2 dome headed bolts into the endgrain of the legs so the wood was a few mm above the ground. If it s something that needs to be flat, like a table...

    Finishing issue

True if it's a blended wax with any form of silicone in it. Natural wax blends seem to be OK as long as they are left long enough.

    Finishing issue

I think it's OK as long as the wax has cured for a few weeks, all the solvents gone.

What should I do with a WW2 12 cylinder magneto

IWM Duxford staff can be a bit "jobs worth" and they don't own many flying aircraft. But on the site there are other organisations who restore and display aircraft. Try the Aircraft Restoration Company, The Fighter Collection and, less likely, the Old Flying Machine Company.

Buy a big plant pot, plant an evergreen shrub, put it in front of the damage. By Spring you will have forgotten all about it (Or one of those naff inflatable Santa's. ).
