    Anchracite Walls for a workshop

White and let the walls reflect the available light around causing a more even light. If, like me, you constantly change things around, pollyfilla won't show up on a white wall.

    Upgrading loft insulation and wiring

In the early days of metric cables 1.00mm² TWE was acceptable but as we rolled away from the 60s/70s it was realised that, with added insulation in the roofspace, the cabling for lighting was a bit small and may get too warm. All new lighting circuits now should be 1.5mm² TWE. Having said...

    16er inserts?

I use a hand stock and die to cut threads. I've always thought that machine thread cutting is more for mass-production.

    Wildlife trail cameras

Hi mate, I have 2 cameras for just that purpose. My first was a cheap one from Aldi many years ago but still going strong. The only downside being the hinges on the front to access the workings; they are a bit fragile. That is a Maginon camera and is OK for night shots and videos with PIR...

DW745 bench saw suddenly stopped working during cutting

Electromagnetic noise suppression. Brush motors cause sparking around the armature where the carbon brushes contact with the commutator. The sparks cause radio frequency noise which interferes with TV and Radio. The capacitor absorbs the excess current that produces the sparking and suppresses...

    Spirit levels

Take a pack of playing cards with you to your local DIY store. Put the level on the floor and use the cards to get the level reading horizontal, then turn the level around 180° and chech it again. If the level remains central, it's a good one.

Personally, I'd go somewhere where they speak the same language.

    Joke Thread II

But, I have to speak as I find and I find less indicating going on with BMW drivers than with others on the road. When they do surprise me by indicating, it tends to be when they get the sequence wrong and end up indicating as they are already at the junction, or roundabout, so they, in fact...

Yet another shedshop Mike's way. Ish

As far as wiring goes, I used 100mm plastic trunking right around the inside of the shed at working height. I'm pleased I did, since I've added. and moved, sockets over time and it was so easy to do. I ran a 25mm trunking along the top of the house-side wall for ethernet and extra-low voltage...

I’m an silly person…..I let the smoke out!

That would have been my first line on enquiry too. Get it rewired 415V, 3-phase in line with the rest of the shop provided the stator slots will take the coils.

Fastcap magnetic micro square 45 degree or another square for tool setup

It seems we are looking for perfection in measuring angles, but is that table saw blade dead flat? If you turn the blade by hand does the angle vary? Does the fence change its angle every time you move it and lock it in a new position? My Makita was really rhat bad on both issues. Is the...

    Edge join 6x2 for garden?

I agree. Why make it more complicated than it needs to be? I used tanalised 40 x 70 timber as stakes (pointed at one end) every metre or so. I put the 4 corner stakes in first, to get the raise bed assembled and positioned, then hammer in the other stakes to reinforce the sides. I buy...

    Off my nut

If you haven't been registered with a dentist then you haven't been having regular checkups and, obviously, you were happy to deal with problems as they arose. Well, I bet you're not happy now. Ring 111 get an emergency appointment.

    Worktop Material?

If you have old worktops spare then that's the way to go but I would prefer 19mm plywood on a good, solid frame.

    One for the plumbers please

Washing hands in cold water, with soap, is hygienic. I'm unaware of any standards for the temperature of water for handwashing.

    Do NOT buy this model

I bought electronic countdown sockets which can be set for 15/30/60/120/240/480 mins for battery charging. They're about a tenner on Amazon and work well. They don't consume any power when off.
